The Coordinator, Indigenous Student Engagement is responsible for the day-to-day operations, and participates in related strategic planning for Indigenous student engagement in EyēʔSqȃ'lewen: The Centre for Indigenous Education & Community Connections (IECC).

This position collaborates to inform decision-making that impacts student engagement functions related to IECC and in support of the strategic goals of the college.

The coordinator leads first point-of
- contact services for prospective students, their families/supporters, and others on both campuses and at various off-site locations and events. Working closely with the Executive Director of IECC and other student support services in the college, this position ensures current and prospective students are provided with the necessary related details for possible and/or upcoming admissions. In addition, this position supervises and leads the Indigenous Advisor team at IECC.This position may work at both campuses, at Indigenous community sites, and may be required to travel.


TYPICAL DUTIES

Indigenous Student Engagement Operations− Coordinates and ensures the delivery of related Indigenous student engagement activities;
− Provides guidance and information on Indigenous student engagement activities and, as necessary, on related program management; to department members and as applicable to others such as chair/program leaders, faculty, and the college community;
− Participates in the development and creation of indigenous recruitment and other student engagement presentations, workshops, and resources; including developing and maintaining a department calendar for activities and timelines;
− Plans, coordinates, executes, may include set-up & dismantle, and/or participates in on-campus activities, events, and tours for groups and individuals;
− Consistently engages with Indigenous communities and organizations to build and enhance relationships to better support Indigenous students;
− Develops, implements, monitors, and ensures customer service standards and models exemplary customer service;
− Administers an effective inquiry response and communication system for responding to student and community partnership feedback in a sensitive and timely fashion;
− Receives referrals from other department members to resolve complaints related to indigenous recruitment processes and functions; consults and/or refers matters requiring next level of intervention to Supervisor;
− Collaborates with the Student Experience division to keep IECC publications, tools, displays, etc. up to date;
− Takes a leadership role to identify and produce departmental specific communications to particular groups within the college community;
− Ensures recruitment strategies and other Indigenous student engagement processes follow and support Strategic Enrolment Management (SEM) best practice and the College's strategic plan and assists in identifying strategies, decision-making, and actions in support of the strategic plan;

Leadership & Supervision− Schedules and directs daily activities of team, coordinates and/or delivers orientation and training; schedules team with other IECC service areas as required;
− Enables effective teamwork, including ensuring participation, implementing team-building strategies, collaboration, and information sharing to foster better IECC student services;
− Creates appropriate opportunities for team involvement in decision making processes;
− In conjunction with Supervisor, leads the hiring process and develops selection criteria in accordance with collective agreements to meet services expectations and positions requirements;
− Defines performance objectives for team members and assists staff in meeting objectives, in participation with Supervisor;
− As applicable, proactively supports and mentors staff through organizational change and development, ensuring the understanding of the department's impact and effectiveness;
− Liaises with HR, union reps, and management to ensure matters related to collective agreements are handled appropriately and consistently;
− In consultation with Supervisor and Assistant to the Director, addresses issues related to professional development requests, leave of absence requests, and matters of employee absenteeism or other human resource issues;
− Contributes to budget development, job description development as appropriate, business processes and applicable policy development;
− Establishes, implements, and maintains uniform operating procedures, administers records and processes for integrity, security, accuracy, consistency, and for decision-making;
− Continually reviews and documents IECC student engagement related business processes, and practices for efficiencies, service standards, and improvements, including researching and maintaining an awareness of best practices/current issues;
