Broadband Maintenance Inc. is a leading Telecommunications Construction company servicing customers in the Ottawa and surrounding area. Our Engineering Department is currently seeking a full time Field Survey Technician (Telecommunications) for the Ottawa Valley region. This position allows for growth and advancement within the company. Salary will be commensurate with experience.


You will conduct utility and right of way research; read and interpret utility plans, DOT records, property/easement data, civil design blueprints, survey documents, or sketches; proofing or comparing the information contained on CAD maps/drawings with information from different sources such as Google Earth, Geo Ottawa, including data and measurements collected from the field.


You Will:


  • Travel to multiple job locations daily to review proposed fiber facilities, telecom infrastructure locations, and designs for field accuracy and propose adjustments when needed.
  • Take field measurements and photos of utility poles, equipment, cables, proposed equipment cabinets/boxes and street dimensions.
  • Collaborate with the associated permit team to review and submit encroachment permits to various state and municipal authorities, department of transportation, railroads, pipelines, etc.
  • Walk and work outdoors daily, in most weather conditions.

You'll Need:

- a minimum of 1 to 2 years of experience with utility construction in an outside plant environment.

  • Experience with telecom/utility poles, and MDU/Hicap/BAU field surveys _strongly _preferred.
  • 1+ years of experience with existing and proposed telecom equipment locations.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience reading and analyzing utility work prints.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience with aerial, underground or buried telecom infrastructure.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience with IKE data collection equipment and O'Calc, SPIDAcalc or other pole loading analysis software.
  • A valid Ontario driver's license with a clean driving record and a current Uncertified Driver's Abstract.

Skills & Experience:


Communication, Computer Applications, AutoCAD (not a requirement), Computer Literacy, English Communications, Internet Knowledge, Telecom, Utility Surveys, Work Ethics, Superior communication skills while interacting with Utility, governmental agencies (city, county, provincial, and federal), consultants, and engineering firms.
