Position Overview:


As a Heavy Equipment Technician (HET) Journeyman, you will plan, schedule and complete mechanical repairs & preventative maintenance inspections on heavy vehicles, equipment and attachments that are assigned to internal customers, ensuring that customer's needs are met and costs and downtime are minimized.


Responsibilities:


  • As a Heavy Equipment Technician (HET) Journeyman, you will plan, schedule and complete mechanical repairs on heavy vehicles, equipment and attachments that are assigned to internal customers, ensuring that customer's needs are met and costs and downtime are minimized

Primary duties include:

  • Providing accurate repair times on units to the Supervisor, so as to have precise up to date information available for internal customers.
  • Performing planned maintenance and repair work on a variety of City vehicles and equipment.
  • Assisting with training and mentoring fellow Journeyman, and apprentices.
  • Liaising with the Supervisor of Fleet Management on preventative maintenance issues and/or unit problemrelated issues and unit performance.
  • Processing work orders in the Fleet Services Maintenance Management System (Cartegraph).
  • Identifying components and unit warranty items.
  • Performing quality control checks on units.
  • Ordering parts and materials to ensure uninterrupted workflow.
  • Coordinating any health, safety or environmental issues on behalf of the Supervisor.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned.
  • Maintaining mechanics work area(s) in a safe and clean condition.

Qualifications:


  • A High School diploma or equivalent (e.g. GED) is required.
  • A Heavy Equipment Technician certificate or equivalent Interprovincial Red Seal (as recognized by the Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training Board) and at least 4 years of experience.
  • Truck & Transport and Off Road certifications are required.
  • An Agricultural Equipment Technician (as recognized by the Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training Board) and at least 4 years of experience would be an asset.
  • A Welder (as recognized by the Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training Board) and at least 2 years of experience would be an asset.
  • A valid Class 5 Driver's License (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerits and no current suspensions or charges pending.
  • You will be required to have a standard set of mechanic hand tools.
  • Experience using the Cartegraph fleet management system will be an asset.
  • The ability to provide clear and concise work order job notes and reports of completed work is required.
  • Success in this position requires the ability to assist technicians in performing complicated troubleshooting, diagnostics, maintenance, and repair.
