Facility Maintenance Supervisor:

The Town of Comox is seeking a Facility Maintenance Supervisor with excellent technical proficiencies, and leadership and communications skills to oversee the custodial team at the Comox Community Centre.

This is a permanent full-time union position (CUPE Local 556) with current rate of pay at $35.36 per hour plus benefits including vacation, statutory holidays, sick leave and other paid leave as per the current collective agreement.

The position is Monday through Friday, 8 hours each day, 5:30 am to 2:00 pm, and includes a three-month probationary period.

Reporting directly to the Recreation Director, the Facility Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for keeping the facility clean and orderly, daily supervision of the building HVAC and geo-exchange system, minor building maintenance, as well as supervising the work of custodial staff.

Typical Duties & Responsibilities include:

Developing and organizing janitorial systems, planning and scheduling preventative programs for maintenance and repairs, and coordinating implementation of these systems and programs;
Inspecting and providing janitorial services, including washing, scrubbing, vacuuming, waxing, polishing, dusting, emptying and collecting garbage; Operating floor scrubbers, polishers and carpet cleaners;
Organizing facility bookings set up, take down and event support;
Transports, sets up and removes materials and equipment to meet program/user group requirements;
Inspecting and providing minor repairs and adjustments to recreation facilities and equipment, as required, ensuring all mechanical, emergency, safety, and electrical functions are operating and maintained;
Supervising the work of custodial staff, including scheduling, assigning, training, and reviewing the work;
Carrying out safe work practices and adhering to safety and other related regulations; and,
Working cooperatively and effectively with all recreation operations including programs, staff and customers.

Required Knowledge & Skills:

Completion of Grade 12 and a minimum of 3 years janitorial/maintenance experience;
Building Service Worker 2 certification;
Minimum 2 years supervisory experience;
Demonstrated knowledge, skills and experience with mechanical, carpentry and plumbing repair;
Current working knowledge of WorkSafe BC regulations;
Excellent communication, customer service, and team building skills;
Sound computer skills including proficiency with MS Word, Excel and Outlook;
Physical ability to frequently lift equipment, work in awkward positions, and climb ladders; and,
Valid Class 5 BC Driver's Licence with clean driving abstract.
