WHAT THE ROLE IS:

The Transportation Manager performs a wide variety of duties to direct, control and coordinate the overall operations of the Transportation Department, including fleet.

Daily management and ongoing training provided to staff to ensure the efficient operation of the department that contributes to the accuracy and fulfillment of customer orders.

Responsibilities include management of all functions of directing, controlling, and coordinating the delivery of products; as well as, planning, assigning, and leading the work of others.


WHAT YOU WILL DO:


  • Performs all daytoday management of Transportation department and personnel. Develops, and maintains an effective department of 2030 employees, through ongoing training, and assignment of personnel schedule (including fleet).
  • Develop and maintain an effective department, of 2030 employees, through ongoing recruitment, training, and assignment of personnel.
  • Performs team meetings with employees to review objectives, service levels, quality concerns, productivity, and allocation of duties.
  • Guide and provide leadership to the team to ensure daily, weekly, and monthly goals are achieved.
  • Regularly review the progress of work in department to ensure that staff are supported, questions have been answered, decisions acted upon, and problems solved.
  • Performs or delegates ongoing Driver training in accordance with Islands West policies and procedures and BC Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure, ensuring full understanding of legislation and safety practices. Ensures all drivers understand, practice, and meet all legislated rules of the road pertaining to skills, safety licenses.
  • Works in conjunction with the Operations Manager on improving operations and creating efficient workflows, including evaluating and recommending adjustments to routes, adapting to current market conditions.
  • Maintains good employee relations and works with other departments to resolve issues.
  • Coordinate the pickup and delivery of trucks needing repair.
  • Supports the management of the credit program including distribution and explanation to staff that are involved in the credit as well as training to improve credits.
  • Be knowledgeable of Transportation KPI's (Key Performance Indicators) to ensure departmental goals are achieved.
  • Practices and teaches safety on the job as well as works in unison with the Safety Committee to comply with Islands West's Safety Policies.
  • Work directly with the Operations Manager on improving operations and creating efficient workflows.
  • Attends as directed, all training meetings and/or professional development sessions.
  • Take direction from the Operations Manager and keep them informed of department activities on an ongoing basis.
  • Operate or perform other duties as directed by the Operations Manager.

SCHEDULE REQUIREMENTS:


  • Must be available for opening shift with a 4:00 am start time.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, (including evenings and weekends, as required) for 40+ hours/week.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:


  • Min 3 years' previous leadership experience is required.
  • 2 years' Commercial Driving experience.
  • Class 3 Driver's license (Minimum).
  • Firm understanding of commercial safety standards (NSC) and driving rules and regulations.
  • Clean driving record with mínimal infractions.
  • Good mechanical aptitude.
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office products, mainly excel.
  • Basic proficiency with routing software and asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage, direct and train 2030 staff.
  • Ability to safely bend, twist and lift to 50 lbs. on a consistent basis.
