What can I expect to do in this role?: You will:

  • research all aspects of client's financial, business and legal affairs to identify and protect client's assets and identify liabilities
- visit clients and assess circumstances and needs relevant to OPGT's area of authority, which can include exposure to unsanitary conditions and unsafe neighbourhoods, anger, hostility and verbal abuse from clients and family members, and occasional exposure to bacteria/viral
- develop individual budgets for clients based on assessment of current and future financial resources, personal needs/expenditures, lifestyle, prior capable wishes, needs of dependents, etc
- monitors client's financial situation on an ongoing basis, adjust budgets to accommodate changes in needs or life situation (i.e. nursing and retirement homes, other care facilities)
- ensure client's income cheques are redirected to OPGT and deposited to appropriate accounts
- visit clients and assess circumstances and needs relevant to OPGT's area of authority
- maximize client's financial resources by identifying and securing benefits


How do I qualify?:


Mandatory:

- you are proficient in English as well as in oral and written French at the advanced level


Technical Knowledge:

- you have knowledge of financial management practices to manage assets, develop individual budgets and monitor/manage client's financial situation
- you are proficient with computer software to access data and prepare reports


Analytical, Organizational and Problem Solving Skills:

  • your analytical skills allow you to review financial information that may be conflicting, inaccurate or incomplete
- your organizational skills allow you to set priorities and work in a high volume environment while meeting conflicting deadlines
- you are able to assess client needs, develop alternatives and identify best course of action to protect client's financial interests


Negotiation, Communication and Interpersonal Skills:

- your mediation, negotiation and conflict resolution skills allow you to deal with clients who suffer from mental illness, brain injuries or developmental disabilities
- your counselling skills allow you to gain cooperation of clients, family members and others in implementing financial plans

  • Your conflict resolution skills allow you to address differences of opinion or expectations, including deescalating situations where clients and/or family members may be angry, confrontational, or uncooperative
- you are able to negotiate financial settlements with creditors
