TEMPORARY ASSIGNMENT - Approximately 17 weeks
***: To provide support to the Biomedical Engineering Department with support activities to the Biomedical Engineering Technicians by assisting with repairs to various types of medical equipment used throughout the Hospital. This report will include performing preventative maintenance tasks on equipment assigned to work on, performing corrective maintenance on equipment that broke down during use, etc., ordering parts, reviewing and updating parts inventory, assisting with updating asset records, updating task instructions, assisting with developing procedures and processes within the Biomedical Engineering Department, liaising with end-user departments, etc. Attending meetings and performing other tasks as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent
  • Enrolled in a 3year College or Univisity program in Bio-Medical Technology or Electronic/Electrical Technology preferred
  • 1 coop work term as a minimum desired in a healthcare setting within a bimedical engineering or electronic/electrical environment would be desirable. Other industries would be considered.
  • Excellent communication skills in the English Language is a Must, i.e., speaking, writing and reading).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, an ability to work as a team player, courteous to others, good listener, tactful, able to work within a multidisciplinary healthcare team within the department and throughout the hospital.
  • Ability to receive constructive feedback and learn from mistakes.
  • Experience working with various tools for electronic work for biomedical equipment/devices, or electronic equipment/systems is highly desirable.
  • Ability to learn and progress quickly with more complex tasks is required.
  • An eagerness to learn, take on assignments and accomplish tasks would be most beneficial.
  • Computer skills would be required and working knowledge of work, excel, power point as a minimum would be required. Other skills in working with various databases and asset/workorder systems would be desired.
  • Familiarity with various medical equipment/devices would be beneficial.

RESPONSIBILITES:


  • Performs preventative maintenance on medical equipment/devices as assigned and under the direction of a Biomedical Engineer/Technician. Will reference applicable maintenance and operations manuals, and contact manufacturer representatives where required as guided by the Biomedical Engineer/Technician.
  • Performs corrective/routine maintenance on medical equipment/devices as assigned and under the direction of a Biomedical Engineer/Technician. Perform applicable testing of Will reference applicable maintenance and operations manuals, and contact manufacturer representatives where required as guided by the Biomedical Engineer/Technician
  • Research and obtain maintenance operational manuals/documents for any equipment/devices that the Biomedical Engineering Department does not currently have and as assigned. This may include reaching out directly to the manufacturer agents, enduser departments, and others as applicable.
  • Perform various tasks supporting inventory and asset management for the parts used for the biomedical equipment/devices used for patient care throughout the hospital organization. May order parts or research sources for these under the supervision and direction of a Biomedical Engineer/Technician.
  • Other related tasks as assigned.
