Job Purpose


The Manager, Early Years will belong to a team focused on improving student achievement, closing the gap and strong family engagement.

This position will give system lead to over 375 Kindergarten classrooms and over 350 Early Years and Child Care programs and services that operate in DDSB schools.

Accountabilities


IMPLEMENT EARLY YEARS (Child Care, Hubs, Recreation): Work closely with the Senior Manager to implement Early Learning and Child Care services in accordance with the Ministry of Education requirements. Respond to community requests, work with families and schools to resolve concerns and issues, provide leadership and guidance to Principals, Facilities Services staff and other system leaders in order to ensure consistency of program standards and procedures among all early years and child care programs. Provide information and guidance to schools, early years, child care and partnering staff in order to develop coordinated and collaborative early years and child care programs. Manage the requirements of Durham District School Board Child Care Consortium and direct operational and program support to early years and child care staff and operators in DDSB schools. Lead assigned committees focused on early years, child care, hubs and afterschool recreation programs and manage Early Years Math Strategy. Manage 'Great Beginnings Start at the DDSB' school success programs. Support the implementation of Early Years strategic plan/priorities/goals and manage Early Years Hubs.


SUPPORT KINDERGARTEN PROGRAMS:

This position is responsible for delivering a high quality, play-based learning program in Kindergarten (over 9000 students) and ensure continuity with child care, school readiness and Early Years hub programs and services.

Coordinates the transition to Kindergarten program, monitor internal and external environments to identify where 'best practices' can be enhanced and retrofits are necessary for student learning outcomes.

Supervise and support Kindergarten facilitators, fulfill all Ministry reporting requirements and provide input and review for development and changes to Board Regulations, Policies, Procedures, protocols and resource materials.


ORGANIZE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT:

Work collaboratively with staff from various departments to co-develop and co-facilitate professional development sessions for educators and early years partners.

Organize training for Consortium members and Kindergarten Educators.

Organize, design, develop, lead and manage Early Development Instrument training for Teachers presentations and professional development for Administrators, teachers and early childhood educators on topics related to programming and integrated approach to the delivery of child care programs.

Knowledge and Skills

Registration with the Ontario College of Teachers and/or the Ontario College for Early Childhood Educators and sound knowledge of Child Development;
Experience working in a Kindergarten and Early Years environment;
Sound knowledge of Ministry of Education Kindergarten Program (2016), ELECT and 'How Does Learning Happen', Ontario's Pedagogy for the Early Years;
Previous experience in the Child Care licensing process for new child care centres;
Previous experience in implementation and development of new programs and services an asset; Strong communication skills (both written and verbal);
Proven collaboration and negotiation skills;
Proven line management and problem-solving skills; Experience in developing and facilitating professional learning Responsive to needs of parents, caregivers and children;
Experience and sensitivity in dealing with members of different cultural and racial backgrounds, including visible and invisible dimensions of diversity;
Effective interpersonal communication;

Education and Experience

Education

Completion of Bachelor of Education with primary qualifications.

Completion of Early Childhood Education Diploma an asset.

Experience

Five (5) years Kindergarten teaching and learning experience required.

Four (4) years licensed childcare and early years experience required.

Two (2) years supervising educators required.

This is a 35 hour per week temporary position available until approximately October 18, 2024.
