Position summary:


The Manager, Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) will be responsible for managing infection prevention and control practices throughout the organization in accordance with the required provincial and national guideline standards.

In addition, will also be responsible for quality and performance improvement activities across the organization.


Responsibilities include:


  • Oversees hospitalwide infection control program, in collaboration with the administrative and medical leadership, which supports the achievement of organizational goals and strategies.
  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary team to determine methods, policies and procedures for infection control, which reflects best practices.
  • Leads the hospital's outbreak management program and to be available on call during outbreak management.
  • Overall responsibility to analyze and review infection control data for minimizing risk.
  • Accountable for monitoring, controlling the budget and resource utilization for infection control.
  • Develops policies for achieving compliance with best practices and provincial standards.
  • Supervises planning and delivery of educational programs for staff, patients, students and volunteers to increase awareness of existence of nosocomial infections; techniques for avoidance and preventative measures to provide a safe environment for hospital employees and patients.
  • Collaborates with municipal and provincial public health agencies to coordinate the responsibilities of infection control issues.
  • Accountable for analysis and quality improvement based on surveillance outcomes and/or sentinel events
  • As the lead for Infection Control program, provides strategic direction and leadership to accreditation requirement pertaining to infection control.
  • Represents Runnymede Healthcare Centre at local, provincial and national committees and/or associations such as IPAC Canada and the Association for Professionals in Infection Control (APIC).
  • Assesses, develops and implements quality and performance improvement strategies throughout the facility.
  • Work with departments managers to develop metrics and relevant data collection plans
  • Actively participate in the Continuous Quality Improvement/Risk Management Program.
  • Current license or registration as a Regulated Health Professional or Medical Technologist with preparation at the Baccalaureate degree level for Microbiology or Healthcarerelated field or Masters in Epidemiology (healthcare)
  • Current Certification in Infection Control (CIC)
  • 35 years experience in Infection Control in a Hospital setting
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate to all staff, the Executive team, medical staff and Board Members.
  • Knowledge of current legislation and regulations.
  • Highly organized, with an ability to determine priorities and plan activities while performing a variety of different responsibilities with conflicting deadlines, particularly to determine the importance and urgency of issues and to respond effectively to fluctuating work load demands.
