ABOUT THE ROLE
We are currently looking for a Tax Advisor to join our dynamic Corporate Tax team.

Reporting to the Director, Corporate Tax, as the Tax Advisor you will be primarily responsible for managing the accounting for income taxes, review and preparation of income tax provisions and tax returns.

The role will have regular interaction with accounting, legal, finance and treasury team members.


This is a full-time salaried position located at our new office in Downtown Calgary with the flexibility of a hybrid work schedule.


WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Manage the process, review and preparation of the Canadian tax provisions and analysis for external financial statement purposes; this includes the worldwide effective tax rate, deferred taxes, uncertain tax provisions, valuation allowances and financial statement tax note disclosure
  • Maintain SOX controls documentation and processes
  • Preparation and review of the Canadian corporate income tax returns and other related filings
  • Preparation and review of the Canadian tax filings and compliance requirements for the company's foreign investments
  • Assist with tax audits by Federal and Provincial income tax authorities and resolving any audit related issues, including preparing and maintaining supporting documentation for government audits
  • Work with the tax planning team to ensure proper purchase accounting and compliance reporting of M&A transactions
  • Understand and minimize the tax exposure resulting from the foreign affiliate structure and cross border transactions
  • Research issues and provide tax advice for business transactions and M&A activities
  • Assist with the review of the Canadian indirect tax returns
  • Assist in developing and implementing process improvements
  • Assist with various other tax related matters and special projects as required
  • Provide mentoring and leadership for optimal performance of junior team members in producing agreed deliverables in a timely manner

WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU

  • Business/Accounting degree or equivalent
  • CPA designation and completion of CPA Canada indepth tax course
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in Canadian corporate tax, and US tax experience is preferred
  • Understanding of SOX controls
  • Proficient understanding of Canadian Corporate Income Tax, including Canada's foreign tax regime
  • Exceptional understanding of accounting for income tax under IFRS
  • Strong knowledge of Excel, SAP, TaxPrep, CanTax FormMaster
  • Selfmotivated with strong interpersonal skills
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • Strong organization skills to manage multiple priorities
  • Skilled in collecting and analyzing complex data and drawing logical conclusions
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • High level of integrity, confidentiality, and accountability
  • Excellent teamwork and team building skills
  • Must be resultsoriented and demonstrate a cando attitude adaptability, flexibility, and resourcefulness
  • Collaborative problem solver who takes ownership of issues and drives to resolution
  • Ability to function in a fastpaced environment while working independently and meeting various deadlines
