- Evaluate and propose optimum geotechnical engineering solutions for problematic situations which threaten the achievement of planned objectives.
- Assess geotechnical risks, develop mitigation plans and communicate accurate and timely information to mine operations, mine planners and management team.
- Conduct analysis of stope and pillar designs, mining sequencing, ground support design.
- Participate in business improvement opportunities
- Implement management tools for the geotechnical process workflow.
- Contribute to, review, audit, and sign off geotechnical databases and models.
- Conduct ground support trials and make recommendations on their performance.
- Supervise installation of mine wide geotechnical installation program which includes extensometers, stressmeters, microseismic system, etc. and data collection activities.
- Lead regular geotechnical inspections of active and inactive mining areas.
- Conduct geotechnical drilling, logging, mapping and laboratory testing to anticipate changes in the geotechnical setting for current and future mine designs.
- Prepare monthly geotechnical reports which includes quality of installation and performance of ground support along with technical review of all mine planning horizons.
- Contribute to statutory reporting activities related to ground support.
- Contribute to the development and updating of the Ground Control Management Plan and mine wide ground support standards.
- Contribute towards budget preparation activities for the geotechnical team which include ground management review of proposed business plan.
- Bachelors' degree in Civil, Mining or Geological Engineering
- Preferred knowledge of Mine design software such as Deswik, Dips, Roclab/RocData, Unwedge, Phase2, GEM4D, Map3D programs
- Previous undergraduate experience in hardrock underground metalliferous mining environment.
- Minimum of 3 - 5 years' experience in hardrock underground metalliferous mining environment.
- Previous experience in a seismically active underground environment.
- Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Advanced communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
- Advanced computer literacy skills - MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
- Advanced planning, organizing and prioritizing skills.
