Description

The Security Advisor is responsible for supporting the Security Supervisor and Senior Manager, Security in the protection of human, real, reputational, and intellectual assets at all Lower Mainland Seaspan businesses.

The incumbent will assist in facilitating the identification and assessment of security threats and managing security risks through the implementation of appropriate controls for all Lower Mainland-based Seaspan business activities.


Based on the North Shore, the Security Advisor is responsible for assisting in the implementation and maintenance of security operations for Seaspan's Lower Mainland facilities and operations.

Primarily responsible for day-to-day security functions on the North Shore, the incumbent will support the security department in preparing and responding to all emergencies on a 24/7 basis.


This position will ensure compliance with the Marine Security Transport Regulations and fill the role of one of the Marine Facility Security Officers (MFSO) for the company.

The Security Advisor will liaise with Seaspan operations and the project management team to ensure that security requirements are met and maintained at all lower mainland Seaspan facilities.


Note:

Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 50 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver.



What you'll do

  • Assists the security department to ensure compliance with legislated security requirements to maintain necessary government certificates and facility clearances.
  • Coordinates security and clerical staff and contractors for Seaspan's Lower Mainland facilities and work sites, including scheduling, payroll, safety, uniforms, and disciplinary/corrective actions.
  • Supports onsite security and provides security related services as required.
  • Assists with site security training and the direction of any security personnel required for projects, including security contractors.
  • Assists in Maintaining facility security plans, instruction manuals, security orders, and security procedures for North Shore facilities in coordination with the Security Manager.
  • Assists in ensuring proper operation of access control, intrusion detection and CCTV systems and guard reporting systems. Manages requests for service for all affected security systems.
  • Assists in the maintenance of master key systems, supplies, and records.
  • Reviews all security reports and conducts preliminary investigations, including following up action items, and implementation of recommendations.
  • Liaises with appropriate company personnel with respect to compliance with CSP (Contract Security), MTSR (Marine Transportation Security Regulations) and ISPS (International Ship and Port Security) code.
  • Fulfill MFSO duties under MARSEC and conducts required drills, exercises, audits, reviews and documentation.
  • Responds to onsite emergency and security issues and assists in investigations into security incidents.

What you'll bring

  • Postsecondary education in security or related field or equivalent experience required.
  • Minimum BST (Basic security license) required.
  • Valid BC driver's license.
  • Some supervisor or management experience.
  • Must be able to obtain/maintain security screening at 'NATO Secret' level.
  • Solid understanding of electronic security monitoring, access control, intrusion detection, surveillance and master key systems.
  • Knowledge of effective security practices including loss prevention, perimeter control and security auditing processes.
  • Thorough understanding of ISPS code, Port & Transport Canada Security regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrated initiative, creativity and integrity.
  • Accurate and thorough record keeping and report writing.
  • Flexibility to work outside normal working hours in cases of emergency.
  • Excellent communication skills written and verbal.
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask, prioritize and problem solve.
  • Strong customer service focus.
  • Ability to work with limited direction and to function as a team member.
