Description
Fort William Historical Park (FWHP) is one of the largest living history attractions in North America. The park provides cultural, heritage, entertainment and educational experiences for residents and visitors to Northwestern Ontario.

FWHP is situated in Thunder Bay and a branch of the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport.

The Fort is a multi-component destination tourism attraction that provides top-level cultural heritage, entertainment and educational experiences for residents and visitors to northwestern Ontario.

As a living history attraction, the Fort depicts the fur trade activities of the North West Company from 1803 to 1821.

The heritage program features interactions with costumed staff, dramas, demonstrations, tours, special events, and education programs.

Facilities include a gift shop, ecotourism, Indigenous and overnight experiences, a resource library, banquet and conference facilities, and picnic area with access for persons with disabilities.

We are seeking an experienced individual to perform a variety of manual labour tasks and grounds keeping functions.

What can I expect to do in this role?: In this role, you will:

  • Perform grounds keeping and facilities maintenance functions, including snow removal, grass cutting wedding, trimming, pruning, sweeping, cleaning and flower bed maintenance
  • Perform physical cleaning tasks of buildings and structures, and in washrooms
  • Pick up refuse and dispose garbage
  • Load, lift and move products, materials and furniture
  • Use hand and power tools including saws, shovels, rakes, lawn mowers, weed eaters, chain saws brush cutters, sprayers and snow blowers
  • Operate alarm/electronic security systems and electric breaker panels, and adjust facility temperatures

Please note:
This position involves tasks outdoor with exposure to cold, hot, wet or humid weather conditions as well as the requirement to attend overnight functions, and work on holidays and weekends


How do I qualify?:


Mandatory:

You have:

  • Valid Class G Ontario driver's license or equivalent as recognized by the province of Ontario
  • Ability to attain BZ Ontario driver's license
  • Ability to obtain forklift operator's license

Technical Knowledge and Skills:

You can:

  • Safely operate hand and power tools and equipment
  • Safely push, carry, pull or lift loads up to 50 lbs
  • Perform physically demanding tasks and manual labour, often requiring prolonged periods of standing, walking, bending, kneeling, squatting and stretching

Organizational and Problem-Solving Skills:

You can:

  • Complete multiple tasks while meeting conflicting deadlines
  • Identify and alert others of problems/issues as well as emergency or safety situations involving electrical, plumbing, security or alarm systems

Communication and Computer Skills:

You can:

  • Follow verbal and written instructions
  • Interact effectively with colleagues, and be courteous and respectful to clients and visitors
  • Use computer software (e.g. Outlook, Word, etc)
