Fundraising Assistant and Communications Support

12-month contract


Barbra Schlifer Commemorative Clinic offers trauma-informed legal services and representation, counselling and multilingual interpretation, and drives system transformation to support women and gender diverse people who have experienced violence.

We are seeking a full-time Fundraising and Communications Assistant (12-month contract) who will play a pivotal role in ensuring the success and goals of the Schlifer Clinic's Fundraising Department are met, including but not limited to fundraising activities, fundraising and cultivation events, fundraising initiatives, foundation, corporation, and donor appeals, etc.

Additionally, the position will support the overall Communications needs of the organization, including website maintenance and social media activity.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Fundraising Assistant (0.6 FTE)_

This position reports to the Director of Resource Development or her designate.


Database Administration

  • Maintain and update the Raiser's Edge NXT database, including constituent record updates, data cleanup, and data integrity, ensuring accuracy for donor stewardship, recognition, moves management, and solicitation.
  • Create and run requested queries, data reports, analysis, and/or data files from Raiser's Edge in accordance with set timelines.
  • Work with the Bookkeeper to provide monthly financial fundraising reports.
  • Monitor online giving through CanadaHelps and manage the transfer of data between CanadaHelps and Raiser's Edge.

Fundraising and Resource Development

  • Create visually appealing content and promotions for fundraising campaigns and initiatives. This includes social media promotions, appeals, and updates.
  • With the Support of the Manager, Special Events and Volunteers plan, coordinate, and execute a peertopeer fundraiser annually (Giving Tuesday). This includes pitching a campaign plan, creating a critical path, recruiting new volunteers, outreach to past volunteers, facilitating volunteer orientations, developing campaign ideas, goals, content, etc., creating social media content calendars for volunteers and the Clinic, and using CanadaHelps to create an appealing peertopeer fundraiser campaign page.
  • Prepare internal and external solicitation fundraising packages for major gifts, foundations, corporations, special events, etc.
  • Prepare detailed and specific reports needed for reporting (such as social media statistics, and volunteer hours)
  • Maintain and organize the Fundraising SharePoint.
  • Schedule internal and external meetings for the FR Department team such as committee meetings, team meetings, etc., and create meeting agendas, and take minutes (as required)

Volunteer Program Coordination

  • Recruit, interview, and select volunteers for the fundraising department's programs and initiatives (as required).
  • Prepare orientation packages and train fundraising volunteers (as required).
  • Establish and maintain open lines of communication with volunteers, addressing concerns and providing ongoing support
  • Maintain accurate records of volunteer hours, activities, and feedback.
  • Collaborate with teams and projects for a common volunteer pool and create compelling recruitment materials

Communications Support (0.4 FTE)_

This position reports to the Manager of Executive Office


Clinic Communications Support

  • Craft engaging content for various external platforms and social media
  • Generate compelling written and visual content for both internal and external audiences
  • Collaborate with various teams and projects for multimedia content creation
  • Manage and grow the organization's presence on social media platforms
  • Monitor and engage the online community

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • University degree or College diploma or equivalent/relevant experience with a minimum of 3 years in fundraising and event management and communications/marketing, preferably in the charitable/nonprofit sector
  • Experience working with Raisers Edge NXT; high degree of comfort with using a donor database with a minimum of 3 years of experience
  • Experience working with online fundraising solutions for online giving such as Canada Helps
  • Able to use a high degree of discretion regarding donors and other fundraising information.
  • Understanding of current and emerging best practices in stewardship and donor engagement.
  • Demonstrated superior written communication skills, prospect and donor research, proposal writing skills, and major campaign planning.
  • Experience with a wide range of communication methods including press and social media platforms and social media management tools such as Sprout Social.
