If you're an individual with outstanding skills, work ethic, attention to safety, and exceptional customer service skills, we want to meet you Reporting to the Manager of Public Works, you will perform a variety of labour tasks involving considerable physical effort performed in all types of weather conditions.
Duties include construction and maintenance of roads, pavement, and asphalt installation; water, sanitary and storm sewer maintenance, pipe installation and repair; sign installation, performing cement work and concrete installation, including brick paver installation; operation of a variety of small equipment, hand tools, and performing routine equipment maintenance; performing maintenance inspections; and, truck driving.
This position supports the solid waste division and may act as a relief driver for garbage, green waste and recycling collector roles.
Working knowledge of the MMCD standards is an asset.Requirements:
- Completion of Grade 12 supplemented with job‐related experience including experience operating small equipment used in the performance of public works construction and maintenance duties, or an equivalent combination of training and experience;
- Considerable experience or training and knowledge of the hazards and proper safety precautions applicable to the work;
- Ability to operate public works maintenance equipment including hand and power tools such as compressors, jackhammers, and cut‐off saws and small and large power equipment;
- Ability to shovel, rake, and compact hot mix asphalt;
- Ability to repair potholes with cold mix;
- Ability to do final paving from large to small projects and knowledge in finishing cement, laying brick and cement block grouting and concrete making;
- Ability to effectively communicate and demonstrate excellent listening skills;
- Ability to deal tactfully with the public in a courteous, professional and effective manner;
- Ability to work cooperatively and amicably in a team environment with a safety first attitude;
- Working knowledge operating a de‐watering pump is preferred:
- Class 5 Driver's license with Air Endorsement and proof of a safe and responsible driving record;
- Class 3 Driver's License or higher with Air Endorsement is an asset;
- Currently possess or the ability to obtain Water Distribution Level I or Wastewater Collection Level I is an asset.
