SUMMARY OF POSITION


The Life Skills Worker is part of a team supporting people who live in our group homes and are experiencing mental health and substance use issues to enable them to fulfill their goals identified in their individualized support plan.

Life Skills Workers provide support to the individuals we serve in the areas of supportive counseling, crisis intervention and prevention, skills development (life skills, social skills, interpersonal and problem solving skills), vocational and leisure support.

In addition, the Life Skills Worker will assist and/or provide practical support with cooking, cleaning, laundry, personal hygiene, medication support, financial management and budgeting.


HOURS OF WORK

This position is scheduled for overnight shifts (12:00am - 8:00am) Monday - Friday. 40 hours per week. This position also participates in the Agency on-call rotation.

SALARY

$ per hour (based on education and experience)

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of a relevant University Degree or College Health Sciences/Social Services Diploma.
  • 12 years of experience in a community mental health setting working with adults with complex mental health and / or addictions concerns.
  • Excellent organizational, oral and written skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to respect rights and personal preference in treatment, rehabilitation and support including the Recovery Model.
  • Building rapport, assessment, crisis deescalation, conflict management, professionalism.
  • Certification in First Aid/CPR, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, and suicide risk assessment preferred.
  • Proficient computer skills including MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and electronic record keeping and data collection systems.

Must have a valid G-Class Ontario driver's license, relevant insurance and use of a reliable vehicle

  • Able to successfully complete and provide a current Police Vulnerable Sector Check.
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours to meet the needs of the individuals supported.
