Your Opportunity
Our Indirect Tax practice area is growing and we're looking to find the right person to grow with it. This entry level position will report directly to the Taxation Manager and truly has unlimited growth potential. Indirect tax is very niche area of taxation and is in no way a typical "accounting' field.


Your experience in KRP's Indirect Tax practice will begin with training to help familiarize you with basic accounting fundamentals, basic income tax fundamentals, and familiarity training with the various accounting software used on a daily basis in our firm.

Next you will receive detailed training in value-added tax and retail sales tax, which will become your area of practice.


Your scope:


Research and Analysis:

  • Conduct indepth research on specific topics related to indirect tax laws, regulations, and practices.
  • Summarize findings and insights to prepare briefings for direct supervisors or internal staff as required.

Documentation Preparation:

  • Draft simple technical memoranda or segments of complex technical memoranda on various indirect tax matters.
  • Prepare other written deliverables such as reports, presentations, and guidelines for clients.

Support on Indirect Tax Projects:

  • Assist with various indirect tax projects as needed, which may include data analysis and presentation.

Client Support:

  • Address inquiries and assist internal accounting staff regarding clients' indirect tax issues.
  • Collaborate with clients to gather necessary information and to support communication on indirect tax matters.

Interdepartmental Collaboration:

  • Collaborate with team members from different departments on projects such as financial statement audits to ensure proper communication of indirect tax issues.

Tax Filings and Compliance:

  • Prepare and file various indirect tax documents including information returns, elections, registration requests, etc., ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulations.

As you develop a deeper understanding of indirect taxation, you will have the opportunity to progress into supporting clients directly with preparing information for various tax authorities during audits and examinations, writing technical memoranda for complex taxation issues, reviewing plans for mergers, acquisitions and reorganizations for indirect tax implications, risks and opportunities.


If this area of practice aligns with your interests and skills, you will be supported in growing into an indirect tax practitioner including the potential to be promoted into Manager and more senior roles.


Your qualifications:


  • No previous experience in tax or accounting is required, any accounting knowledge required will be provided through training
  • Prior experience in professional service firms, law, accounting, finance, engineering, or any bookkeeping experience in any industry including but not limited to GST/HST, payroll, tax, would be an asset
  • Accounting, tax, finance, or law
  • Teaching and instructional skills
  • Written communication skills (technical writing, proposal writing, editing, journalism, etc.)
  • Research skills and report writing
  • Software such as Microsoft office, CaseWare, Tax prep, QuickBooks, Simply Accounting.
