    Role

    Reporting to a Senior Engineer, the role of P&C Substation Engineer is designing of protection and control schemes in electrical facilities for the Transmission and Distribution, Power generation, Industrial and Renewables sectors. P&C Engineer will apply their knowledge and experience to analyze, evaluate, and create new designs and drawings and revise existing designs and drawings with guidance from senior engineering personnel, as needed. P&C Engineers

    Responsibilities

    • Familiar with Protection and Control philosophies, schemes, and standards.
    • Apply knowledge of components, arrangements, and standards to complete design packages for substations that include, but are not limited to, schematics, wiring diagrams, and bills of materials.
    • Working knowledge of MathCAD, Microsoft Office, ETAP Aspen Oneliner and CAPE.
    • Excellent knowledge of modern digital protective relays in utility applications and experience calculating relay settings.
    • Technical knowledge and understanding of electric transmission system operation, maintenance, performance, power equipment and substation design.
    • Familiarity with Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) rules will be an asset.
    • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage a wide variety of issues on multiple projects simultaneously.
    • Provide technical support during construction and commissioning.
    • Competent in basic computer skills to include Microstation, Autocad, Trane Software and Microsoft Office products
    • Good Knowledge of relevant legislations, standards, regulations, guides and good practise (CSA, ANSI, IEC and IEEE standards.)
    • Familiarity with local area networks, communication schemes, platforms and protocols used to provide local and remote interrogation with substation relays, meters, fault recorders and other intelligent electronic devices (IEDs). Knowledge of IEC61850
    • Familiarity in design of electrical facilities for Transmission and Distribution, Power generation, Industrial
    • Create detailed technical drawings, specifications, design studies and technical reports to meet client(s) requirements
    • Apply and maintain knowledge of relevant and new legislations, standards, regulations, guides and good practise to projects
    • Review and follow-up on drawings to ensure compliance with equipment specifications
    • Provide assistance and feedback in the design process
    • Compute and establish manufacturing, construction, installation standards and specifications from detailed calculations
    • Apply principles of electrical theory to engineering projects through planning and implementation of procedures

    Requirements

    • Degree in Electrical Engineering or related Engineering degree required; or Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology from an accredited post-secondary institution
    • 2 – 8 years of experience in the Utilities industry is preferred but not required
    • Experience in construction and field installations an asset
    • Proficient in medium/high voltage power engineering in electrical facilities for the Transmission and Distribution, Power generation, Industrial and Renewables sectors
    • Proficient ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and schematics
    • Possess strong organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
    • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
    • Eligible for registration with APEGA or ASET
    • Dedicated team player with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Demonstrated problem solving and analytical skills with the ability to work within strict deadlines
    • Navigate computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform engineering tasks
