Ontario Oasis is hiring a part time entry level horticulture technician to work in Toronto, Ontario.

We are looking to add an employee to our team who will be assisting with horticulture installations as well as plant installation maintenance.

Expectations of the position include the ability to pick up and carry/move 50+ lbs repeatedly, work outdoors in all inclement weather conditions, ability to carry out verbal requests on where to move things/how to install something, etc.

Installation maintenance includes care of indoor and outdoor plants, knowledge of IPM and plant care necessities, etc.


Ontario Oasis is a dedicated team of horticulturalists devoted to designing, installing and maintaining the highest quality interior and exterior landscapes for our customers.

We are looking for knowledgeable and friendly individuals to join our growing team. Horticultural technicians install, maintain and design treatment plans for a variety of plant species.

Technicians work closely with lead hand and design team to implement and maintain the successful completion and care of interior or exterior landscape.

Technicians play a crucial role in identifying potential plant health concerns and treating issues before outbreaks occur.

Job Objective

  • Set up interior and exterior plant installations at various locations.
  • Maintain installation wellbeing at prior and future installations.

Responsibilities:


  • Install and maintain plants indoors and outdoors
  • Transfer plants from a nursery pot to a decorative planter or display
  • Move planted pots from one location to another
  • Move large plants from one location to another (large plants referring to plants lbs which will be moved with equipment provided by employers)
  • Maintain installations and plants
  • Check for pests and deal with and record any occurrence of pests
  • Observe correct watering practices and maintain the correct amount of watering depending on the species need
  • Employees
    Must maintain an unobtrusive and tidy workspace while on job sites
  • And other duties as assigned
Education

  • Highschool Diploma, or GED
  • Diploma, degree, certificate, or other approved documentation designating the applicant as a recipient of the following from a Canadian or Ontario accredited organisation in: horticulture, greenhouse tech or similar field
  • Past experience of at least 3 years managing a team of interiorscape maintenance technicians viewed as equivalent to education requirements.

Qualifications:


  • Grower Pesticide Safety Training (Pesticide License)
  • CCOHS safety training an asset
  • WHMIS an asset
  • WSIB an asset
  • Knowledge of common nutrient and chemical issues for tropical plants an asset
Past Experience

  • Greenhouse growing of one year
    required or experience in maintaining interior and exterior landscapes of one year
    required:
  • Knowledge of tropical plant species and their pests
    required:
  • Experience in interior plant maintenance an asset
  • Experience in landscaping or exterior plant maintenance an asset
Job Requirements

  • Full G License, additional licenses are a bonus
  • Skills in pest ID with a focus in entomology an asset
  • Ability to carry 50+ lbs repeatedly for long periods of time/distance

  • May work on construction sites, or in office buildings, restaurants, private residences, or other similar venues.

Must be able to maintain a clear, unobstructive worksite, maintain awareness of potential and existing safety hazards, and be able to maintain professional behaviour on job sites
