  • Job SummaryThe University of Victoria School of Nursing is a leader in undergraduate and graduate nursing education and research in partnership with different educational, community and practice organizations. The School offers the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree (BSN) to prepare nurses to work with individuals, families, and communities, guided by health promotion principles. The BSN program is delivered through a collaborative partnership with colleges in British Columbia (Camosun College, College of the Rockies, and Selkirk College) and the Northwest Territories (Aurora College).
The School of Nursing also offers two graduate degrees:

a PhD in Nursing and the Master of Nursing (MN) degree with four options: (Advanced Practice Leadership, Nurse Practitioner, Nurse Educator, and Double Degree in Nursing and Health Informatics).


The School is situated in the Faculty of Human and Social Development (HSD), a multi-professional faculty with a commitment to the student experience of dynamic learning in extraordinarily rich practice and community setting for vital impact on health and social development.


The position provides administrative support to the Practicum Coordinators in the administration and coordination of nursing practice experience arrangements for all undergraduate and graduate Nursing students.

The position also works closely with the faculty Clinical Practice Experience (CPE) Course Coordinator and associated faculty and sessional lecturers teaching in the clinical courses across programs.

The support of this position is pivotal in ensuring timely, accurate, and safe student practice experiences.


Support to the Practicum Coordinators involves providing data management of student and nursing practice experience details including entry, tracking, reconciling, and generating reports using a variety information management systems.

This position is responsible for ensuring students have the required access and permissions, both electronic and physical, during their practicum, thus liaises with health authority contacts regarding required student access.

The position supports practice course delivery through assisting with student clinical course registrations and assisting with organization and distribution of clinical instructor and student orientation information.

In addition, this position provides committee support and coordination for the School's Undergraduate Progression Committee.

  • Demonstrated experience in strong technical support skills and knowledge, including database management systems.

  • Ability to complete workflow with attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.
  • Exercise initiative set priorities and adapt to changes to meet the department, faculty, and university deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently with mínimal guidance and as part of a team.
  • Exhibited excellent and effective verbal and written communication skills depending on audience, in particular with students, faculty, and other departments.
  • Demonstrated ability to consistently display professionalism, courtesy and empathy, and maintain confidentiality, in particular during complex and sensitive interactions involving emotional or stressful circumstances.

Specialized Knowledge/Education:

  • Aptitude in navigating and effectively using a wide range of software including Microsoft 365 (Outlook/Excel/Teams), SharePoint/Connect, Adobe Acrobat DC Pro, including Adobe Acrobat Mail Merge, Survey Monkey, E-Ply, and video conferencing platforms (e.g. Zoom), and various databases.

Experience:


  • Minimum 23 years of experience in providing advanced administrative support.
  • Experience working in an academic environment and/or healthcare environment is an asset.
