  • The SIU department provides investigative services, technical expertise, and is a resource for Claims Services nationally. The SIU department's vision is of world class performance and technical expertise dedicated to the appropriate investigation of insurance claims consistent with the highest standards of professional, ethical and legal conduct. The SIU department investigates files where there is a need for a more indepth and specialized investigation beyond the scope of Claims Services. Where factfinding is required, an SIU investigation is conducted in a fair, objective, thorough, timely and professional manner, enabling TDI to objectively make a determination of the facts and circumstances, appropriately addressing fraudulent and nonmeritorious matters, and facilitating the resolution of meritorious claims.
  • Investigators are accountable for task investigations, evidence gathering and evaluation of assigned investigative tasks and providing quality technical resources to the Senior investigators. This includes making recommendations to the Senior investigators on the outcome of an investigative task and any further steps required. Investigators are responsible for establishing a network of contacts and developing relationships with all levels of law enforcement and other investigative agencies such as IBC etc., and participating in the investigation of organized fraud rings as required.
  • This position requires the Investigator to be in the field a majority of the time and therefore the ability to selfmanage, work independently and use strong judgement on daily prioritization is required.

Job Requirements

  • 1 year of claim handling in multiple lines of business
- >1 year investigation experience

  • Investigation and interview experience
  • Fraud investigator registration
  • Cognitive interview training
  • Minimum collegelevel working proficiency
Functional Skills

  • Must possess excellent verbal/written communication skills.
  • Paraphrases and summarizes interviews, secures interview recording after the interview ends where appropriate
  • Ability to have difficult conversations in person
  • Knowledge and experience in conducting fraud investigation
  • Expert knowledge of Insurance products, systems, policies and procedures and Insurance Act and legislations
  • Knowledge of legal processes and evidence collection
  • Superior knowledge of the principles of casualty, residential and automobile insurance and the claims adjustment processes associated with each
  • Ability to take direction and feedback
  • Ability to develop strong working relationships with external entities such as law enforcement agencies
  • Ability to see patterns and document evidence accurately
Licensing

  • Provincial licensing as required
Education

  • Postsecondary education or equivalent work experience
