Staff Education Coordinator
:
Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Coordinator provides

education services in the long term care home. The primary role of coordinator is to be accountable to

oversee the education and learning needs for the home and ensure compliance with relevant

legislations.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Uses quality improvement (QI) process to improve services to staff and residents completing
education training evaluations and the annual program review.

  • Facilitates all employee training including surge and safety 24/
  • Identifies the educational and training needs in the facility to ensure quality of care and
services;

  • Develops, coordinates and delivers comprehensive onboarding and orientation program for new
staff in collaboration with department managers and team representatives.

  • Reviews the volunteer program education and training
  • Maintains staff attendance inservice records and quality management activities for the
program;

  • Maintains the safety talk bulletin board and resource material
  • Communicates and promote staff education sessions for mandatory and optional education
  • Receives feedback from staff and department heads on training programs;
  • Monitors new technology, trends in the delivery of each service and ensures staff are trained
appropriately;

  • Works with the corporate education consultant in developing an annual education schedule for
the home based on need assessment survey

  • Coordinates and develops staff newsletter
  • Provides ad hoc learning for specific departments as requested
  • Supports families and residents education in collaboration with the Social Worker / Resident
Services Coordinator

  • Participate in meetings as required (education committee, PAC, Leadership & Partnership,
etc )

  • Is knowledgeable of the Resident Bill of Rights / Governing Principles and endeavours to
promote it;

  • Performs clinical teaching sessions on the units as needed;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:


  • Minimum requirement of Registered Nurse / Registered Practical Nurse with current registration
with the Provincial Licensing Body;

  • Registered Nurse / Registered Practical Nurse with continuing education in Adult Education,
Gerontology, Nursing Administration, Rehabilitation, Long Term Care, or the equivalent;

  • Must possess good written and oral communication skills;
  • Good motivational and time management skills, good interdepartmental communications and
leadership skills are necessary;

  • Good working attitude and team building skills required.
