The Interlake-Eastern Regional Health Authority is seeking a motivated Physician/Clinical Assistant for a position in our Acute Care Program at Selkirk Regional Health Centre and Gimli Community Health Centre. Practice settings will include working on both the medical wards and the emergency departments.
Position Summary:
The Physician/Clinical Assistant (PA/CA) functions as a physician extender providing patient care under the supervision of a registered physician and in collaboration with an inter-professional team of health professionals.
PA/CAs in the Interlake-Eastern Regional Health Authority may work in various locations including Selkirk Regional Health Centre, Gimli Community Health Centre, and Beausejour Health Centre.
PA/CAs may work at multiple sites and in multiple practice settings including Primary Care Clinics, Medicine Wards, Surgery and Operating Rooms, Emergency Department, Minor Treatment Area, and OutPatient Centre.
Detailed responsibilities, functions and duties will be defined in the Contract of Supervision and Practice Description established between the PA/CA and the Supervising Physician(s), and approved by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba.
The position of Physician/Clinical Assistant functions in a manner consistent with, and supports the mission, vision and values of the Interlake - Eastern Regional Health Authority.
Qualifications:
- Must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of
- Manitoba as a Physician or Clinical Assistant.
- Must be eligible for a Medical Staff Appointment.
- Prior experience preferred.
Physician Assistants:
- Must be a graduate of a Physician Assistant Educational Program acceptable to the College and eligible for national certification
- Must be a member of the Canadian Association of Physician Assistants (CAPA)
- Ongoing Canadian Certified Physician Assistant designation required
Clinical Assistants:
- Must be a graduate of an accredited Medical School in Canada or abroad
Must have at least one of the following:
- Completion of RCA 1 exam
- NAC OSCE
- LMCC
Required Certifications:
- ACLS, BLS, PALS
- If at time of hire you have not successfully completed the training, you will satisfy these conditions within 3 months of hire;
Desirable Certifications:
- ATLS, Airway, Procedural Sedation
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- Two (2) years recent experience as a PA/CA an asset

- Ability to use professional judgment applicable to consultation and referral processes.
- Ability to perform duties in a professional and courteous manner and produce high quality work while meeting deadlines.
- Ability to learn and optimize use of the office electronic systems including Electronic Patient Record (EPR)
- Valid Manitoba Driver's License and access to a vehicle required.
- Physical and mental health to meet the demands of the position.
