Job Summary:


The Migrant Worker Education Specialist is responsible for developing and facilitating educational, English-learning workshops specifically emphasizing labour worker rights and responsibilities under the Temporary Foreign Worker (TFW) program.

The specialist is expected to collaborate with other BCSIS staff to provide further hands-on support in connecting clients with information and resources


Key Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Develops the curriculum and facilitates the delivery of the Migrant Worker English Education workshop series targeting TFWs with an emphasis on labour worker rights and responsibilities
  • Designs and facilitates related programming as part of the workshop series that incorporates networking and social/recreational activities
  • Collaborates with BCSIS team members to deliver additional handson support services to eligible TFW clients to enable access to services and resources, including the Migrant Worker Emergency Support Fund
  • Performs related promotional and marketing activities as assigned by Program Manager
  • Maintains and submits accurate service records and statistics necessary to comply with funder requirements
  • Attends staff training and meetings
  • Assists, participates, and networks in Agency community events, providing physical and administrative support
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by Program Manager

Education, Training and Experience:


  • Bachelor's Degree in Social Sciences or Education
  • TESL Canada and/or TESOL certificate or equivalent is considered an asset
  • At least 1 year of adult teaching experience
  • Experience in the design of adult English language curriculum and learning outcomes
  • Experience with either online curriculums or course design and implementation
  • Experience with multicultural clientele and immigrant related services
  • Experience in the social and/or labour market services sector an asset
  • Knowledge of intercultural and social issues
  • Knowledge of basic principles of classroom crisis management

Job Skills and Abilities:


  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Additional languages such as Cantonese, Mandarin, Punjabi, Farsi, Spanish, Tagalog are considered an asset
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Strong class delivery and facilitation skills
  • Strong technical skills in physical and virtual classroom equipment such as smartboard and document camera technology
  • Strong course planning, time management and organizational skills
  • Results oriented with ability to take initiative in developing new resources
  • Ability to work in a fastpaced work environment

  • Ability to work evening and weekend as required
  • Ability to travel within service regions for program delivery required
