Department Information:


The Department of Infrastructure (INF) provides high quality services to the public and Government of the Northwest Territories' (GNWT) departments, boards and agencies including the planning, design, construction, acquisition, operation and maintenance of public transportation infrastructure and the buildings, works and equipment required for the GNWT to deliver its programs and services.

INF makes essential petroleum products available for sale to the public where these products are not provided by the private sector, and promotes the development and increased use of energy efficient technologies.

INF also regulates electrical and mechanical safety services and licenses individuals and vehicles operating in the territory.


Job Information:

Located in Yellowknife, the position reports to the Manager, Surface Design & Construction.

The incumbent will assist in delivery of projects within the budgetary authority assigned, as well as be part of various teams assembled to meet the needs of specific highway, bridge, culvert and airfield maintenance, rehabilitation and construction projects.


You will have the authority to initiate contracts up to $5,000 in value and to approve contract performance up to $10,000 while delivering Capital and O&M projects generally with a total value of up to $10,000,000.

You will be responsible for assisting with projects from design to construction phase. You will assist with identifying and recommend projects to be included in short
- and long-term capital planning.


Ensures consultant and contractor compliance with all the applicable and governing codes, permits, directives, regulations, and GNWT technical standards and guidelines, and takes action when in default.


You must have knowledge of project management preferably in a northern environment, structural engineering analysis and design procedures and design and construction management of heavy civil works and structural projects such as bridges, culverts and other highway and transportation structures.


This knowledge is normally acquired through the completion of a Bachelor's Degree in civil engineering OR Diploma in civil engineering with two years of work experience.

Must possess a valid Class 5 Driver's License.
