Who we need


The
Vice President, Product & Pricing will be accountable for the overall leadership of the company's industry-leading insurance product shelf, and setting and executing strategies for product development, pricing, and support.

This leader will report to the SVP, Actuarial, Risk & Product and will bring a client-centric mindset to help lead the team's evolution and scale the function.- With a collaborative and transparent approach, the
Vice President, Product & Pricing will communicate a vision and engage individuals across many disciplines to work towards objectives and drive the product strategy and product initiatives forward.


  • This position is open on hybrid basis in one of the following locations: Montreal, QC, Toronto, ON and Waterloo, ON.What you will do

Strategic leadership

  • Lead the development of a strategic roadmap for product development and pricing that balances the need to achieve short term targets with longterm growth and profitability objectives;
  • Represent the product and pricing team in meetings with senior management, including active participation in the development and presentation of business cases relating to product and pricing initiatives while also providing input to related strategies such as distribution, underwriting, and new business process;
  • Cultivate a strong culture of accountability and excellence; communicating strategic direction and build team engagement;
  • Establish strong relationships with various disciplines, such as operations, IT, actuarial, business development, etc.; Adapt and lead change on a regular and frequent basis to adapt to the competitive landscape.
    Product development and pricing
  • Oversee all aspects of product development and pricing, including new product development, new business profitability and risk analysis, competitive intelligence and product support;
  • Ensure an effective product development process is in place, executed, maintained and improved over time, to deliver product initiatives efficiently and effectively;
  • Maintain a product shelf that leads the market in competitiveness, while maximizing profitability and managing risks within an acceptable level;
  • Monitor trends in the market and within the portfolio to find competitive opportunities, threats, and identify emerging risks; Develop the new business reinsurance strategy and manage relationships with reinsurers to maximize return on capital.
    Leadership, mentorship and people development
  • Attract, develop, engage, coach, and retain a high performing team to deliver on growth and financial targets in line with our business objectives;
  • Work with internal partners to provide clear direction and strategy for the Product & Pricing team;
  • Build a clear succession roadmap for roles within the team.
What you will bring

  • 15+ years of experience in insurance and/or financial services, including a minimum of 7 years related to product development, product management and pricing;
  • University degree in actuarial science, or equivalent;
  • FSA and/or FCIA designations, or equivalent;
  • Expert knowledge of insurance products, particularly related to group benefits, affinity and associations, and including life, critical illness, health & dental, and disability;
  • Significant experience designing and developing new insurance products;
  • Advanced knowledge of insurance pricing techniques and practices;
  • Excellent understanding of IFRS 17 accounting standards;
  • Excellent knowledge of Canadian regulatory capital requirements and the overall regulatory framework and its impact on product and pricing practices;
  • Ability to orchestrate the efforts of multiple functions and business partners, such as business development, legal, compliance, risk, IT, pricing and distribution;
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with a diverse group from multiple disciplines;
  • Creative at solving problems and finding winwin solutions;
  • Ability to influence to get things done without having authority and to reach consensus with people of different viewpoints;
  • Act with a sense of urgency;
  • Understanding of the Canadian Insurance competitive environment;
  • Leadership and people management skills with the ability to motivate and energize a team towards common goals;
  • Experience in networking, negotiation, influencing and creative thinking skills;
  • Build and maintain relationships with senior management across functions and divisions;
  • Resilient delivery mindset with a strong execution focus.
