ABOUT THE ROLE:


Trains, oversees, supervises and coordinates all aspects of Pharmacy Assistants, Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacy Operations in the Prep room, Clean room and Pharmacy areas.


A DAY IN THE LIFE:

In addition to the duties and responsibilities of the Pharmacy Assistant, the Supervisor of the Clean Room/Prep Room/Pharmacy:

_Human Resources_

  • Supervises and manages Pharmacy Assistants and Pharmacy Technicians in the clean room, prep room, and pharmacy areas.
  • Assures adequate staffing on shift to meet needs of operations; including management of vacation requests
  • Assures Pharmacy Assistants and Pharmacy Technicians are trained/audited effectively to ensure work performance meets the required standards
  • Coordinates Pharmacy Assistant student placements and Pharmacy Technician Structured Practical Training (SPT)
  • Serves as a Pharmacy Assistant (as per the Pharmacy Assistant Job Description) and Pharmacy Technician (as per the Pharmacy Technician Job Description) when required and in the absence of appropriate day to day Pharmacy Assistant/Technician staffing
  • Participates in hiring and performance management of Pharmacy Assistants and Pharmacy Technicians in the clean room, prep room and pharmacy areas; including execution of annual performance reviews

_Quality Assurance_

  • Completes appropriate documentation, such as labels, log sheets, and reports relating to quality assurance requirements
  • Coordinates the preparation and sanitization of pharmacy environment and equipment following Policies and Procedures and participates in Quality Assurance activities
  • Supervises cleaning company staff in performance of cleaning requirements according to Policies & Procedures and reports any issues to the Pharmacy Manager
  • Coordinates quality assurance testing of the environment and staff in the clean room, prep room and pharmacy

_Production_

  • Oversees the production of batched products
  • Supervises the flow of orders through the prep room and clean room; expediting orders to ensure "ontime" delivery to patients
  • Oversees the implementation of new initiatives, workflow and change management in the prep room/clean room
  • Coordinates the handling of Cancelled or Held orders in the Prep Room
  • Performs other duties as assigned/required by the business

_Inventory Management_

  • Maintains medication and supply inventory levels, ensures proper storage and restocking.
  • Coordinates expiry checking of medications stored in the prep room and clean room areas
  • Coordinates the disposal of biohazardous waste, including narcotic/controlled medications
  • Supervises documentation related to Narcotic, Controlled and Targeted substances, as per Provincial/Federal Law
  • Participates in resolving any narcotics in documentation of Narcotic/Controlled or Targeted substances

_Equipment_

  • Supervises the organization of the walkin refrigerator
  • Coordinates preventive and nonpreventive maintenance as well as calibration of equipment used in the clean room prep room, including the walkin refrigerator, TPN compounding equipment and HEPA Filter certification of clean room/prep room
Job Qualification


WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TEAM

  • College diploma from an Accredited Pharmacy Technician Program required
  • Certification with the College of Pharmacist
  • Minimum five years IV experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Supervisory/Management experience in a Pharmacy setting.
