    Position Summary

    As an integral member of the Facilities Management Department, the principal responsibilities of the HVAC TECHNICIAN include: responding to requests for diagnosis and resolution of temperature and/or ventilation problems; monitoring, troubleshooting and adjusting Building Automation System; checking and repairing relay points, sensors and controls; performing routine and preventative maintenance, including various air balancing procedures, as required; performing various air quality tests, as required; performing various general mechanical procedures; providing technical advice in the repair, modification and efficient maintenance of air handling units and related equipment; performing cross-functional duties as assigned and/or required; performing other duties consistent with the job classification, as assigned and/or required.

    Duties

  • Responds to requests for diagnosis and resolution of temperature and/or ventilation problems
  • Performs routine and preventative maintenance, including various air balancing procedures, as required
  • Performs various air quality tests, as required
  • Performs various general mechanical procedures
  • Provides technical advice to the supervisor and manager in the repair, modification and efficient maintenance of air handling units and related equipment
  • Work in compliance of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and its regulations, reporting hazards, deficiencies and contraventions of the Act, in a timely manner
  • Perform cross-functional duties as assigned and/or required
  • Perform other duties consistent with the job classification, as assigned and/or required

    Qualifications

  • At minimum completion of high school plus HVAC courses and programs offered by manufacturers, etc. or recognized equivalent required
  • 4 to 5 years practical and related experience and/or 6 months to 9 months on the job training required
  • Ability to read and interpret industry-related blueprints, schematic/structural drawings and manuals.
  • Ability to operate and repair or calibrate a range of machinery/equipment of varying complexity.
  • Exercise initiative and good judgement with ability to multi-task
  • Theory of HVAC systems
  • Materials, methods and tools used in the operation and repair of HVAC systems.
  • Ability to perform duties in a professional and courteous manner and produce high quality work while meeting deadlines in accordance to UHN standards.
