PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
A knowledgeable Accounting Manager who can lead and motivate accounting staff members and increase department accuracy and efficiency.

The Accounting Manager will lead, supervise, evaluate accounting department tasks, and will manage the recording, tracking, and reporting of financial information.

They will motivate accounting staff members, develop, and implement department controls and procedures, and ensure that the department operates efficiently without sacrificing accuracy.


SCOPE AND MAGNITUDE


Soul Restaurants Canada, part of the Soul Foods Group, comprises of over 230 Restaurants and Stores including KFC, Taco Bell, and Starbucks brands.

POSITION FUNCTIONS

Prepare, review, and analyze financial statements to ensure accuracy and completeness (45%)

  • Oversees the production of periodic financial reports; ensures that the reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles and that all major projects, monthend, and yearend reports are completed accurately and on time.
  • Maintaining accurate and complete financial records and participating in audits or reconciliations, as needed.
  • Assess, create, and enhance departmental controls, systems, and practices to improve accuracy and productivity.
  • Manage the preparation and filing of government tax returns.
  • Calculating and submitting franchise royalties and advertising fees
  • Reconcile intercompany accounts and perform month end accruals including utilities.
  • Support Finance Director and Commercial Finance in driving insightful analysis of ongoing financial results.

Banking Oversight and Treasury (25%)

  • Lead the banking team including managing general ledger accounting functions including, but not limited to account reconciliations, billing, collections, payroll.
  • Monitor and control the flow of cash in and out of the company to meet business and investment needs.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to analyze large amounts of data.

Finance Business Partnership (15%)

  • Partner with operations to understand key drivers and drains of the financial results in driving future oriented action.
  • Establishing bank, credit card and 3rd party aggregator accounts for new locations
  • Provides general ledger reconciliation on capital projects.
  • Assisting other departments as they develop strategies, establish objectives, and make decisions that could have a financial impact on the business.
  • Other ad hoc support to cross functional team as needed.

People Coaching and Development (15%)

  • Be an active participant in developing finance people strategy to build strong talent pipeline, through coaching and supporting growth and development.
  • Develop staff by managing performance, setting goals, providing ongoing training, and maintaining strong employee relationships

POSITION IMPACT:

The Accounting Manager should be analytical and detail oriented.

The ideal Accounting Manager should possess excellent leadership and interpersonal skills as well as a strong understanding of accounting and management principles and financial legislation.

The position will lead, monitor, and evaluate all day-to-day accounting activities. The role will establish financial status by developing and implementing systems for collecting, analyzing, verifying, and reporting financial information.

Specialised or Technical Knowledge/Skills

  • Post-Secondary Education in Finance, Accounting, or Business. MBA an asset
  • Accounting designation CPA, CMA preferred.
  • QSR experience an asset.
  • At least 5 years of progressive finance experience in general accounting capacity, QSR experience would be an asset.
  • Ideally with driver's license and vehicle.
  • Selfstarter with 'Can Do' attitude who can work independently and lead a team.
  • Excellent people skills with the ability to relate and communicate with a diverse group of individuals, creating a collaborative environment of trust, and be able to influence changes both internally and externally.
  • Demonstrate ability to use expertise and skills to see the bigger picture and develop ideas in pursuit of positive outcome for the team and the organization.
  • Ability to explain complex finance matters to nonfinance business partners.
  • Result driven, flexible, and able to embrace and respond to change effectively.
  • High literacy and proficiency with MS Office and Sage accounting software with learning agility.
