This position provides the option to work from home on Mondays and Fridays each week, with the requirement to report to the primary NOVA Chemicals work location on Tuesdays through Thursdays.

Employees can opt out of the hybrid schedule and will be expected to work Monday-Friday from the primary work location.

We are seeking a Cyber Security Analyst to join our Enterprise Security Team. In this role, you will be a key player in safeguarding NOVA Chemicals against cyber threats using cutting-edge technologies. Your expertise will be crucial in responding to security incidents and proactively identifying and mitigating potential threats.

As a critical member of our team, you will work to drive automation and streamline operational efficiencies.

Your responsibilities will include conducting thorough investigations to uncover any potential threats, and utilizing your knowledge of threat hunting to prevent breaches before they occur.

You will also collaborate with both internal and external groups to ensure the effectiveness and efficiency of our comprehensive security initiatives.

This position can be located at a NOVA Chemicals location in either Calgary, Alberta; Red Deer, Alberta; or Sarnia, Ontario.


You Will Use Your Expertise To:
Handle Tier 3 escalations from Security Operations Center analysts.
Work with our SOAR platform to enhance investigation and response activities.
Help coordinate penetration tests.
Perform incident response and perform forensic investigations based on logs and other data. Validate containment and remediation measures, Perform Root Cause Analysis (RCA) as necessary.
Leverage SIEM and other analytic tools and techniques (i.e., UBA, DLP) to identify anomalous activity.

Collaborate with Human Resources (HR), Legal, Cyber, and Information Security elements to uncover potential areas of risk and or threat.

Conduct threat hunting in NOVA Chemicals environment to proactively identify threats and monitoring improvements.

Write, submit, track, and manage investigative reports, attachments, and case files, for internal and external dissemination and for future review and/or compliance.

Oversee the electronic discovery and forensic investigation services for the enterprise. Partner with HR, Legal and other stakeholders to define and deliver on service requirements.

Provide direction and oversite for technical actions required during larger Cyber Security Incident Response Team (CSIRT) issues and coordinate with organizational leaders and stakeholders to ensure effective and efficient response and remediation.

Drive and champion adoption of standardized practices in design and operations of secure plants.


What We Are Looking For:

Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent with 8+ years of related experience in a security role or equivalent with continued professional development; or 12+ years combination of post-secondary education and related experience with continued professional development


One or more security certifications including: CISSP, CRISC, CISA, CISM, GCIH, GPEN, CEH
Demonstrated knowledge of Cyber Security Incident Response processes
Understanding of Information Technology systems including servers, networks, workstations, and infrastructure
Strong documentation skills for documenting processes, forensic investigation findings and incident response reports
An understanding of Cyber Security roles and responsibilities
Knowledge of cyber security frameworks (e.g., NIST, ISA/IEC 62443, and ISO
Experience with Scripting (PowerShell & Python) and Security DevOps
Experience with cloud-based infrastructure solutions such as AWS, Azure or Google Cloud
