Our mission is achieved through culturally appropriate programs such as counselling, childcare, educational and employment services, and youth development.


What you will do:


  • Provide new clients with an orientation to the services and refer clients to Employment Counsellor on duty when appropriate
  • Refer clients to appropriate settlement, training or other programs in the community
  • Provide current labour market information in order to assist job seekers with their employment and educational goals
  • Update and acquire new resources that are useful for clients; organize and keep updated, job search and career planning materials
  • Assist walkin clients with resumes, cover letters, job search activities and other employment needs
  • Assist in connecting with employers and organizing job fairs
  • Responsible for setting up and facilitating individual and group employment skills workshops such as Health and Safety, Career Exploration, Career Management, Job Search Readiness and Job Matching workshops.
  • Support unassisted students with resume critique and creation, resume proofreading and mock interviews
  • Prepare and submit monthly reports on R&I activity/targets to the Supervisor and/or Manager in an accurate and timely manner
  • Spearhead the overall organization and planning of the Resource Centre
  • Maintain an orderly area and ensure client workstations are clear of paper and clean; replace old materials and notices in the area
  • Ensure monthly calendar is updated; coordinate with Marketing to ensure be posted on TEC's website; share workshop calendar have workshop calendar e posted online to m on a monthly basis and shared with community partners

Community Outreach:

  • Represent Tropicana widely throughout the community to build and maintain relationships with new and existing employers and community partners, and other stakeholders to achieve Tropicana's strategic goals and targets
  • Participate in outreach activities and make presentations to service agencies and employers to increase client service access and improve service collaboration
  • Collaborates with service agencies and employment programs (e.g., Employment Ontario and City of Toronto, United Way, shelters)
  • Monitor employers' database to ensure a robust and diverse pool of employers
  • Collaborate with Supervisor of Employment Services in the planning of job fairs, hiring events, mentoring and networking events on a frequent basis
  • In conjunction with the management team, engages and expands external expert networks to support emerging strategic projects, enhancements, partnerships, service agreements and community development initiatives that meet the needs of Tropicana Employment Centre and the community it serves
  • Ensure resource and Information targets are met through Workshop facilitation, job fairs and outreach activities

What you will need:


  • University Degree, College Diploma or a combination of education and experience
  • 1+ years of experience working in the employment service sector
  • Experience facilitating group and 1:1 sessions
  • Experience working in a nonprofit organization is an asset
  • Negative Vulnerable Sector Screening Check issued within one year of hire date
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both oral and written
  • Second language is an asset
  • Knowledge and understanding of the challenges faced by the BIPOC communities and able to make culturally sensitive referrals when appropriate
  • Knowledge and experience using online platforms such as Zoom, Webex and others for online facilitation
  • Ability to empathize with adults, immigrants, refugees, persons with special needs and youth issues and clients facing socioeconomic factors to obtain and retain employment
  • Ability to work in a multicultural/multiracial environment

Targets:

  • Serve to
    1,500 clients (per year) = 125 clients (per month):
  • Spearhead outreach activities (e.g.
making presentations to Community Partners about TEC's services) and communications with new and existing community partners to generate
20 new client referrals per month:


  • Organize and host at least
    three Employer information sessions to clients
  • Track and monitor
    all new incoming inquiries from various Marketing channels and record and report on those converted to new TEC clients
