Call for Volunteers to Join our Board of Directors

The Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA), York Region Branch is dedicated to our vision of "mentally healthy people in a healthy society." We facilitate access to the resources people require to maintain and improve mental health and community integration, build resilience, and support recovery from mental illness.

We value cultural competency as a critical element in providing the best client service, volunteer and work experience.

We also foster diversity, equity and inclusion grounded in anti-racism and anti-oppression practices, using a harm reduction and trauma-informed lens.

For this position on our Board of Directors, we are seeking an individual who:

is passionate about contributing to CMHA's vision of _"mentally healthy people in a healthy society;"_

- is able to commit to participating in approximately 9 meetings (typically 2.5 hours in length) each year;
- is able to commit to participating on at least one Board Committee with the option of also participating on other committees if you so choose (Quality Improvement and Safety, Philanthropy, Governance & Capabilities, and Mental Health & Addictions Crisis Hub); and
- is prepared to personally support and participate in philanthropy initiatives and increase community engagement by promoting the agency within your network and in the community.

We also encourage those with care experience with CMHA York Region & South Simcoe within the past two years, either as a client or as a primary caregiver to a client to apply.

Requirements & Competencies:

- have experience with not-for-profit good governance practices;
- have experience which will contribute to business acumen and planning;
- be professional, reliable, and punctual;
- possess good listening and communication skills;
- respect diversity and differing opinions;
- be comfortable speaking in a group and interacting with others;
- comply with CMHA's policies; and
- provide a Vulnerable Sector Screening
- have a connection to our community (i.e. live or work in York Region or South Simcoe)
