The Ministry of Affordability and Utilities (AU) leads and coordinates the government's actions to deliver immediate cost-of-living and inflation relief, support long-term affordability and oversee a safe, reliable and affordable utility system.


Affordability and Utilities' mandate includes advancing a modern, safe and reliable utilities system that meets the everyday needs of all Albertans, attracts investment and supports job creation.

In addition, the Affordability and Utilities' efforts focus on coordinating and collaborating with other departments to provide timely, effective relief where it is needed most including advancing affordability of insurance, housing and food costs.


Role:


The Outreach and Engagement Advisor will be pivotal in advancing the Government of Alberta's national and international advocacy goals through strategic coordination and effective collaboration.


The Outreach and Engagement Advisor plays a critical role in supporting the Government of Alberta's AU national and international advocacy goals.

They are responsible for coordinating engagement initiatives and strategies, ensuring strategic participation of ministerial and senior leaders in events and meetings, and providing support to team members in various planning activities.

The advisor must effectively communicate and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to deliver quality client services and achieve outreach as well as engagement objectives.


Key responsibilities of the Outreach and Engagement Advisor includes:

  • Coordinating engagement initiatives and strategies for AU's national and international advocacy goals
  • Facilitating strategic participation of ministerial and senior leaders in events and meetings
  • Developing targeted materials and support for successful outreach and advocacy efforts
  • Providing support and cover off for team members in various planning activities
  • Cultivating and maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders to achieve outreach objectives


Overall, the Outreach and Engagement Advisor's success lies in the ability to communicate effectively, collaborate strategically and maintain a broad network of internal and external partners to drive the Government of Alberta's advocacy goals at both national and international levels.


Qualifications:


Required:


  • 4 years University graduation (Public Admin., Business, Communications, Political Sciences, or other) in a related field plus 2 years progressively responsible related experience; or equivalent as described below.

Equivalency:
Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:

  • 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
  • 1 year of experience for 1 year of education

Experience:


  • Substantial experience in government relations, public affairs or advocacy with knowledge of provincial and national political landscapes as well as governmental processes
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, capable of engaging stakeholders, preparing briefings and crafting strategic materials effectively
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse internal and external stakeholders including government officials, industry representatives and advocacy groups
  • Proven project management skills, adept at coordinating and overseeing engagement initiatives with multiple projects simultaneously
  • Deep understanding of political dynamics, adept at navigating political landscapes with tact and diplomacy and aware of public policy implications on the Government of Alberta's priorities

Assets:


  • Knowledge of Alberta's affordability and utilities sector, understanding unique aspects and related issues
  • Political acumen with a strong grasp of the provincial, federal and North American systems as well as nuances and current issues
  • International exposure or knowledge of global affairs, beneficial for engagements at the international level
