    The Department of Clinical Neurosciences in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Full-Stack Software Developer. This Fixed Term Recurring Part-time position is for approximately 6 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

    The Korngut Digital Health Innovation Program in the Department of Clinical Neurosciences, Cumming School of Medicine, is seeking a highly motivated Full-stack Software Developer to join our team.

    The Developer reports to the Program Manager and will work closely with the Program Coordinator and Student Developer to build the app from inception to completion of a working minimum viable product and future iterations

    This is a recurring part-time position working 8-25 hours per week. Recurring Part-time employees are hourly employees engaged to perform work on an irregular schedule.

    Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

    • Collaborate with the project lead and student developer to articulate the app goals, objectives, and technical requirements
    • Collaborate with the team on the app design to ensure a seamless, intuitive, and visually appealing user experience
    • Implement and maintain back-end functionalities to support the app's features, including data storage, retrieval, and processing
    • Integrate patient data collection, storage, and security measures to ensure compliance with relevant data protection standards
    • Integrate third-party APIs and services as necessary to enhance the app's functionality and performance
    • Build and implement the required codebase and digital infrastructure to support the functionality and user interface of the patient app
    • Write clean, maintainable code following best practices and coding standards
    • Document code, processes, and project developments to facilitate future maintenance and updates
    • Conduct thorough testing of the application to identify and fix bugs, technical issues, or inconsistencies, ensuring high reliability and quality
    • Work closely with the project lead to iterate the app based on user feedback and testing results
    • Participate in regular team meetings to provide progress updates, discuss challenges, and collaborate on problem-solving

    Qualifications / Requirements:

    • Post-secondary degree or equivalent diploma, certificate, or training in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
    • Experience building mobile applications, with a portfolio of previous work
    • Proficiency in front-end technologies, such as JavaScript, and modern JavaScript frameworks/libraries (e.g., React, TypeScript)
    • Strong programming skills in relevant languages such as Python
    • Familiarity with mobile application development frameworks and tools (e.g., React Native)
    • Proficiency in back-end technologies and frameworks, including , Express, and relational/non-relational databases (e.g., MongoDB, PostgreSQL)
    • Experience working with GraphQL and RESTful APIs, and version control systems (e.g., Git)
    • Knowledge of cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud) and deployment processes
    • Understanding of user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) design principles
    • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically and analytically
    • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment
    • Effective time management and ability to adapt to change in a fast-paced environment
    • Understanding of data management, security, and privacy considerations related to healthcare applications is an asset
