Position Summary


Responsible for coordinating health and safety initiatives by ensuring all departments have the information and support required to carry out their responsibilities in compliance with the _Workers Compensation Act _and the PRRD's Health and Safety Program.

In addition, the position is also responsible for leading the Regional District's efforts with respect to the _Accessible British Columbia Act_, Including overseeing the development of an accessibility plan and supporting the accessibility committee.

This Full Time, Temporary Position's end date is December 31, 2023, which may be extended depending on operational needs.


Key Accountabilities

  • Supports rural community groups in developing and updating COVID19 Safety Plans.
  • Conducts regular reviews and updates of the PRRD's Health and Safety Programs.
  • Promotes health and safety awareness among employees with a focus on injury awareness and prevention.
  • Leads the development of short term and long term health and safety plans and initiatives through the evaluation of current initiatives, identification of needs and obtaining input from management, supervisors and staff.
  • Coordinates health and safety training of committee members and staff.
  • Coordinates and provides oversight of effective responses to workplace injuries and near misses, including accident and incident investigations and reporting, and a safe and early return to work for those involved, when possible.
  • Assists in workplace inspections and works with departments to take necessary action to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Works with departments to develop and update standard operating guidelines, policies and procedures.
  • Ensures that adequate records are kept and maintained.
  • Works with administrative staff to coordinate and prepare agendas for the Health and Safety committees throughout organization to meet legislative requirements.
  • Other duties as required.
  • In the event of an emergency, this position will be a key member of the Emergency Operations Centre (EOC).

Qualifications and Experience

  • Considerable knowledge of WorkSafeBC regulations and legislative requirements applicable to the operation of the work force.
  • Sound knowledge of methods, practices, techniques, tools and aids used in safety training programs, including the ability to conduct field inspections and identify health and safety hazards.
  • Relevant occupational health and safety courses and a current BC recognized safety officer certification.
  • A minimum of two (2) years' experience in an occupational health and safety officer role and knowledge and experience in a local government setting.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
  • Level II First Aid or the ability to obtain.
  • A valid B.C. Driver's License and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check are required.
An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.


Salary:
$30.00-$40.00 per hour
