    General Accountabilities:
  • Receives, receipts, stores, issues and ships material used in the operations.
  • Manages material, in accordance with established practices and regulations.
  • Is responsible for material under his/her control.
  • Performs maintenance, not requiring formal trades qualification, and assists in tasks where unskilled or semiskilled ability is required.
  • Issues and returns stock items, including emergency stock, and records the transactions by proper coding and verifying accounting distribution.
  • Processes receipts of incoming materials and put away in proper storage location.
  • Maintain economic inventory levels by taking physical inventory, reconciling variances and locating material lost in transit.
  • Determines, and prepares surplus declarations for material which is to be scrapped or declared as surplus.
  • Maintains records of returnable material, including cable reels, by keeping accurate record cards.
  • Arranges with transport companies for shipping of material, ensuring correct placard, and preparing bills of lading for same.
  • Prepares claim forms for material damages or lost in shipment.
  • Maintains records in appropriate systems to record movements of materials.
  • Assembles and issues stores material (including cutting and parting) from work orders and pick lists.
  • Carries out good housekeeping, minor maintenance, inspections and fire prevention practices for materials and equipment used in the performance of his/her work.
  • Dismantle (or arrange dismantling of) components from minor equipment for return to stock.
  • Responsible for the safe handling, storage and labelling of hazardous material, including hazardous waste, in accordance with corporate polices and procedures and government regulations.
  • Arrange for testing and or calibration of electrical safety blankets, high voltage gloves, hot sticks, various instruments, jigs, hoists, or other equipment and tools that are maintained in inventory for use by field trades.
  • Performs any other duty within the intent of the Preamble to the Occupational Definition.

Selection Criteria

Essential Knowledge:


  • Must have Grade XII or equivalent, plus experience in warehouse operations and/or waste management.
  • Must have a demonstrated high standard of safety and efficiency.
  • Must be able to perform work with a limited direct supervision.
  • Must have a valid G Drivers license and a good driving record to be able to operate vehicles in the performance of job duties.
  • Must be capable of performing administrative duties and preparing reports (i.e. maintaining inventory logs and record, preparing and filing manifests, inspection reports).
  • Must be prepared to use electronic devices such as hand held data collection devices and computers.
  • Must be trained and have experience in forklift operation.
  • Must be trained in TDG, WHMIS and Electrical Safety Awareness.
  • Requires a level of physical and medical fitness necessary for completion of the requirements of this classification.
  • Requires effective oral communication and interpersonal skills, imitative and a positive attitude in dealing with customers.
  • Experience with SAP a definite asset.
