Position Overview
The Production Supervisor is responsible for the direct supervision and coordinating the activities of the workers who operate the production and packaging lines.
Duties & Responsibilities
Production
- Coordinate with the Planning and Procurement Coordinator to obtain batch tickets and identify products to be packaged as per customer requirements.
- Identify product inventory or quality issues in production and packaging areas and report them to the Operations Manager to resolve them.
- Supervise employees on the production and packaging areas; provide guidance with the production and customer requirements.
- Supervisor will join the team in packing customer requirements by following the proper protocol.
- Labelling, filling, and packing final product.
- Blending ingredients together to create a final blend.
- Setup and change product materials in a quick, efficient manner
- Ensure packaging specs meet company standards.
- Complete production paperwork
- Maintain a clean and safe work area.
- Initiates continuous improvement whenever possible.
- Promote sustainability in all applicable areas.
- Ensure proper personnel resources are in place to maintain the required production and coordinate with the Operations Manager in providing approval for leaves of absences (vacation, personal, birthdays), and request additional personnel from temporary placement agencies when required.
- Maintain and enforce a high level of housekeeping abiding by the C.L.E.A.N. program.
- Help to develop and enforce company policies regarding security and safety to maintain a safe working environment.
- Supervise a team of production and packaging employees, including delegation, performance evaluation, disciplinary action, and participate in hiring, training, and termination decisions.
- Responsible to initiate appropriate actions regarding food safety problems and or quality problems.
- Responsible for GMP's (Good Manufacturing Practices), food safety and quality and be aware of FOOD SAFETY System Program
- Support new product development and continuous improvement.
- Ensure ongoing compliance with standards and legislation.
- Maintain QA control documentation.
- Reports potential nonconformance and suggests areas of improvements.
- Potential to take on QA/SQF Practitioner responsibilities
Machinery
- Responsible for the setup of the production machine to ensure efficiency, quality, and safety 'best practices', including SQF.
- Responsible to run all types of machinery in the production/warehouse area.
- Responsible for maintaining a proper maintenance schedule of the equipment and ensuring it is running to its best ability.
- Responsible for having a vast knowledge of how the machines work and how to properly run them.
- If there is any troubles or issues with the machines the Operations Manager is to be notified immediately.
- Quality control of the products is being completed regularly throughout the day.
Requirements:
- Approximately 35 years of supervisory experience including accountability for the efficient operation of a food manufacturing operation.
- Leadership experience in risk management
- Knowledge of issues related to management of a 'lean' operation including work planning, resource allocation, inventory control, scheduling, materials, information technology and human resources.
- Knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations and management practices to prevent or manage risk and potential losses.
- Leadership and supervisory skills in motivating and managing human capital within the organization to achieve results.
- Superior employee communication skills and ability to adapt communication style to build relationships with others who do not share his/her adaptability in this regard.
- Capable of using software
- Ability to be assertive without being outwardly aggressive in dealings with others.
- Strong personal work ethic, enthusiasm, and high energy level.
- HACCP/GMP knowledge or experience
