SUMMARY
The Workplace Readiness Club (WRC) is a three-year initiative funded by the Ontario Trillium Foundation that serves as a vital support system for low-income individuals in Peel. The program specifically supports clients registered in Employment Services at Achēv who are on social assistance, facing barriers such as skill gaps, limited professional networks, and long-term underemployment. WRC expands upon Achēv's Job Action Club (JAC) by extending its services across four Achēv locations in Brampton and Mississauga, with the goal of supporting 96 individuals per year through 12 cohorts, totaling 288 participants over three years.
Each two-week, in-person boot camp utilizes a hands-on, group-based approach to job readiness, equipping participants with essential and soft skills training, job search strategies, and individualized coaching to foster sustainable employment. Additionally, follow-up coaching reinforces employment goals and resilience, ensuring long-term success. Designed to enhance employment outcomes, this comprehensive model aims to improve participants' employment rates by at least 50%, equipping them with practical skills and confidence to achieve financial independence.
The Job Coach will report to the Manager, Career & Newcomer Services and provide support with the successful implementation, execution, monitoring, evaluation, reporting requirements, and completion of the program. The Job Coach will actively and intentionally collaborate with the Employment Services teams at Achēv's Mississauga, Malton, Brampton East, and Brampton South sites to streamline the client referral and follow-up processes.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Partner with Achēv's Employment Services teams in Mississauga, Malton, Brampton East, and Brampton South to develop an efficient client referral and follow-up system. This process will enable Employment Services clients to transition seamlessly into the WRC program, which includes a two-week, in-person workshop and personalized one-on-one support. Upon completing each cohort, clients will be referred back to Employment Services to facilitate meaningful connections with employers and career opportunities.
- Design and deliver interactive, group-based job search workshops across four Achēv Peel locations (Mississauga, Malton, Brampton East, and Brampton South) for low-income participants, providing strategic guidance on overcoming unemployment and underemployment.
- Offer individualized coaching that includes assisting clients to create step-by-step job search action plans, incorporating curated courses on soft skills development and vocational training to address skill gaps and build confidence.
- Employment Services staff will provide ongoing support to referred clients, guiding them through the job application process, interview preparation and practice, as well as post-interview follow-up to enhance their employment outcomes.
- Maintain detailed and accurate case management records that track job search activities, job applications, interviews, and follow-ups in the CRM/database and funder reporting platforms.
- Submit timely and accurate statistical program data, including client success stories to support Achēv's monthly narrative and cash flow variance reports, quarterly KPI reports, and funder reporting requirements.
- Work with the Manager and Employment Services team to organize sector-specific networking events and alumni engagement initiatives, fostering an extended professional network for WRC graduates transitioning into the workforce.
- Refine and adapt job search programming in conjunction with the Manager to align with evolving client needs, ensuring relevance and effectiveness.
- Build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships while representing the WRC program at meetings and conferences, effectively conveying its initiatives, impact, and value to both internal and external audiences.
- Collaborate with the Manager to address client complaints and feedback, ensuring an empathetic and supportive approach that aligns with Achēv's Client Charter.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Completion of a post-secondary University Degree or College Diploma in social services or related field
- 2 -3 years of demonstrated experience in assisting low-income individuals, especially those facing multiple employment barriers, including unemployment or under-employment.
- Proven experience in curriculum development, group workshop facilitation, and employability/life skills training that motivate job seekers toward employment.
- Extensive case management experience, with a keen ability to collect, track, and report data accurately, ensuring compliance with Achēv's internal and funder-mandated reporting requirements.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with strong problem-solving and conflict resolution abilities, ensuring effective engagement with clients and community partners.
- Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to network, collaborate, build relationships, and negotiate with internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace.
- Proficiency in MS Office, Outlook, Canva, Zoom, and Teams.
- Able and willing to travel between all four Achev Peel locations (Mississauga, Malton, Brampton East, and Brampton South).
- Able and willing to work evenings and weekends as dictated by program needs.
