The Pediatrics Site Director (Sudbury), reports to the Program Director, Pediatrics.


Responsibilities:


Summary of Functions:

The role of the Site Director will be to assist the Program Director in achieving the following elements:

  • Providing direction for all aspects of the Residency Program including the selection, ongoing support and assessment of the residents
  • The planning, development and promotion of residency education at the applicable site and the maintenance and evaluation of relevant educational objectives of the residency program consistent with the requirements and regulations of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada) and with the mission and values of NOSM University (NOSM U) within their community context
  • Working in collaboration with the site administrative coordinator (SAC) or other administrative personnel to ensure a welcoming positive environment for learners e.g. organize regular social events, maintain an opendoor policy for residents
  • Structuring regular meetings with all residents at the site as a group and/or individually as required to address residents' concerns and discuss strategies to improve learning, teaching and the learning environment at the site
  • Ensuring that learners are well prepared for practice in northern, rural and remote communities
  • Ensuring effective coordination and collaboration of residency education at their site and with other residency programs, the undergraduate program, electives programs and allied health professionals
  • Participating in overall program assessment and evaluation
  • Preparing for and participating in internal and external reviews and accreditation

Specific Responsibilities:


Administration:


  • With the assistance of the Program Director, and the Postgraduate Office, works towards attaining full accreditation for the program
  • Attends all Residency Program Committee meetings
  • Attends the Site Medical Education Committee meetings (if applicable)
  • Serves as a file reviewer and interviewer for CaRMS, both first and second iteration.

Education:


  • Assists with timely review and management of in training assessments of learners, preceptors and rotations
  • Collaborates with the Program Director, the Postgraduate Office and community representatives to ensure appropriate use of community resources such that learners from all programs are integrated in a suitable manner
  • Ongoing review and development of the residency program including educational objectives, academic, and clinical curriculum consistent with the requirements of the RCPSC and NOSM U
  • Liaises with learners from NOSM U and other medical schools completing undergraduate, postgraduate elective and core rotations within the community
  • Identifies and secures resources required for the delivery of the curriculum
  • Maintains regular communication with clinical teachers at the site to provide support, address concerns and identify needs for faculty development
  • Meets with residents to provide career counselling
  • Ensures the provision of safe learning/teaching, research and clinical environments for learners, staff and faculty

Qualifications:


Education:


  • Doctor of Medicine degree
  • Possession of a current license to practice medicine in the province of Ontario
  • RCPSC certification (or equivalent as determined by the Associate Dean, Postgraduate Medical Education)
  • An academic appointment with NOSM U

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


  • An interest in residency education
  • Experience in the administration of postgraduate residency programs an asset

Language:


  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English (verbally, written and comprehension)
  • French/Indigenous language skills would be considered asset

Remuneration:


  • As per the stipendiary faculty remuneration process

Time Commitment:


  • Two (2.0) days per month
