OCAD U is currently seeking outstanding, creative and collaborative teachers in the following sessional opportunities/opportunity.


For courses delivered remotely faculty will be expected to observe OCAD U's Guidelines for Remote Delivery, which includes enabling students to successfully complete the course asynchronously.

GRPH-3017 Graphic Design Credit) Fall Term, In-Person Delivery

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Graphic Design 3 builds upon the skill sets and knowledges developed in first and second year to include the processes and practices of information visualization through practical experiences.

Given the proliferation and variety of data available, the development and building upon of numeracy, data collection, analysis, and interpretation skills are the cornerstone for communication in the information age.

The exploration of visualization methods and media—from charts to more complex and interactive forms— foster a critical approach to visualization, highlighting its power to inform and persuade.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

Teaching and teaching-related responsibilities may include but are not limited to: participation in curriculum coordination meetings (3x per term), course outline development, studio preparation and delivery inclusive of lectures, critiques, rubric and written-comment based assessment, mid-term evaluations and final evaluations/reviews; performance review, assessment of teaching materials; responsibility for health & safety and meeting academic and curricular requirements and deadlines.


QUALIFICATIONS:


  • The successful applicant should have a bachelor's degree in Graphic Design or another relevant discipline, and/or equivalent professional experience.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.
  • A demonstrated capacity to support and resource independent studio investigations is essential to teaching at this level.
  • A demonstrated commitment to the principles of equity and diversity, and proven ability to work effectively and collegially with a diverse population of students and faculty underpin all academic positions at OCAD U.
  • Demonstrated leadership and experience in promoting a respectful and inclusive work and learning environment for students, staff, and faculty.
  • Adobe Creative Suite; other design software an asset
  • Computer programming (processing, HTML/CSS/JS, etc.)
  • Design and technical considerations for print and screen.
  • Experience to support methods for working with both quantitative and qualitative data.
  • A current body of work within the professional design and/or academic disciplines as it relates to the course description.
  • A capacity to translate varied design principles, practices, and terminology(gies) into concise lectures, discussions, demonstrations, resources, (etc.), into open dialogues and sustained critiques to support student progress.
  • Experience and aptitude for highly iterative, processoriented work without the restriction of fixed outcomes or expectations.
  • Adaptability to a variety of learning styles and student learning needs.
