About the PositionPosition Details*
- Collect and prepare cementum samples from animal teeth.
- Perform cementum preparation, mounting, and staining procedures.
- Operate laboratory equipment including microtomes, embedding units, tissue processors, microscopes, and microscope cameras.
- Perform data collection and analysis using specialized software and databases.
- Maintain and troubleshoot laboratory equipment and instruments.
- Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and safety protocols.
- Maintain detailed records of experiments and data analysis.
- Contribute to preparation of reports and presentations on research findings.
- Collaborate with other team members and researchers.
The Student Lab Technician(s) will have the opportunity to work with a highly motivated and dedicated team of researchers, contribute to cutting-edge research in cementum analysis, and gain valuable laboratory experience that will propel them into a successful career in the field of Environmental Science.
Required Qualifications
- Working towards a diploma or bachelor's degree in environmental science, biology, chemistry, or related field.
- Previous experience in a laboratory setting is preferred.
- Familiarity with cementum aging techniques.
- Knowledge of laboratory equipment and procedures.
- Ability to follow SOPs and safety protocols.
- Exceptional time management skills needed to balance concurrent studies with lab work. Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and specialized software for data analysis.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Flexibility to work outside of normal business hours, as needed.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
- Ability to lift 25 pounds.
- Manual dexterity to manipulate laboratory equipment and samples.
- Ability to work in a laboratory environment with exposure to chemicals and other hazards.
Preferred Qualifications
Salary
- AUPE Class Level 1 Step 1 $16.01 per hour
