Position Summary

The Coordinator of Health and Safety, as a member of the Operational Services management team, provides leadership with the delivery of effective environmental, health and safety programs in support of educational services, schools and facilities according to the mandate, objectives and policies of the Chignecto Central Regional Centre for Education.

In partnership with senior administration, regional staff, school principals and according to the strategic goals and objectives of the Centre assure the provision of a safe and healthy learning environment.


Qualifications

  • Postsecondary education, preferably within the science, facilities management, occupational health, or engineering fields.
  • A Canadian Registered Safety Professional Certification, or similar safety certification, would be an asset.
  • A minimum of five years' experience managing related functions including environmental, occupational health, safety, security or related/relevant fields.
  • Valid license to operate a vehicle in Nova Scotia.
  • Agreement to provide a Child Abuse Registry Check and a Criminal Record statement according to CCRCE policies and standards.

Responsibilities

  • Health and

Safety Leadership:

In collaboration with senior management, school principals, Property Services, department managers and the Department of Education and Early Childhood lead in the promotion and protection of the health and safety of students and staff.


  • Program development: Coordinate the development of a comprehensive Occupational Health and Safety program for CCRCE schools and offices following applicable regulations and guidelines to assist in maintaining healthy and safe facilities.
  • Human Resources: Develop and maintain suitable health and safety practices and training programs for staff including maintaining proper documentation and evaluation of training methods.
  • Quality Management: Ensures that service delivery is carried out in accordance with provincial, RCE, regulatory and professional standards including recommendations for improvement of the CCRCE educational system.
  • Regulatory management: Develop and implement management systems to ensure compliance with all environmental, health and safety regulations, standards and guidelines which provide potential hazards or risks to students, staff, and school community.
  • Communications/

Partnership Development:

Develops and sustains linkages with individuals, groups, organizations, government agencies and other departments as a means of achieving the health and safety goals of the CCRCE.


  • Safety Engineering: Coordinate the evaluation of facilities, products, processes, and systems using qualitative and quantitative methodologies to identify and assess potential hazards and associated risks.

Safety Investigations:
Oversee health and safety investigations and formal reports for incidents and environmental issues presented within the organization.


Terms of Employment
Regular, 12-month, full-time position; salary and conditions and in accordance with Non-union terms and conditions of employment. A Child Abuse Registry Check and a Criminal Record Check, according to CCRCE policies and standards, will be required.
