    Position Summary



    Note:
    Pay rates are based on 2023 rates


    Reporting to the Supervisor, Building Services, the Permit Technologist reviews applications and plans, issues permits and provides customer service to permit applicants.

    KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES


    Review applications and plans for residential, institutional, commercial and industrial properties with regards to completeness of the submission, including structural, floor plans, elevations, plumbing, wiring, heating systems, sanitation, fire and safety, approvals from other agencies and complete applications.

    Advise applicants and Building Inspectors of incomplete submissions and application issues/items requested.


    Review of plans as needed for building permits, site plans, re-zoning and compliance letters to determine compliance with the Ontario Building Code/Act, Heritage Act, Subdivision Agreements and applicable by-laws.

    Accept, Issue and prepare permits in the City's land management system.

    Shadow Inspectors on building inspections.

    Provide building permit statistics (Tarion, MPAC, Stats Canada, Comparison Report, Permit by Number and Fees Breakdown).

    Provide customer service in person, by telephone and e-mail.

    Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications, Competencies


    3 year diploma in Architectural, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering Technology or equivalent.


    6 months experience dealing with the public in, specifically, issuing permits, the enforcement of codes, standards and municipal approvals, construction and the preparation of plans.


    Minimum qualifications under Bill 124; Completion of the Legal/Process Examination - General, CBO, RCA or Designer; with the ability to obtain further qualifications in the future.

    Additional course and exam costs will be covered by the municipality.

    Possess a high degree of tact and have excellent public relations skills.

    Strong communication skills both written and verbal.

    Ability to handle stressful situations on a regular basis.

    Working knowledge of MS Office programs including: Word, Access and Outlook; CityView experience considered an asset.

    Must adhere to the prescribed Code of Conduct for Inspectors.

    Must possess and maintain a valid 'G' driver's license.

    Must obtain and maintain a satisfactory criminal record check.
