As a Cook at Peterborough Retirement Residence, you will be given high expectations, as well as an expectation to continue personal growth and professional growth.

Essential Duties are the technical skills and knowledge that an employee requires in order to perform their role.

Below is detailed information on required Essential Duties for your position:

  • Preparation of high quality, nutritious meals according to the menu plan, and the requirements of the RHA,
  • Plates all meals and ensures Resident food preferences are respected,
  • Keeps the kitchen area and equipment clean,
  • Maintains a safe working environment,
  • assists in the FIFO process of food and supply products
  • Works collaboratively with all Food Services and other departments associates associates,
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

The qualifications needed to join our family at Peterborough Retirement Residence are as follows:

  • Certification in Food Preparation designation from accredited school,
  • Minimum 5 years or related experience in retirement, hospital or hotel setting in volume food preparation,
  • Knowledge of special and therapeutic diets,
  • Familiar with weights and measurements, recipe conversion and portion control,
  • Completion of Safe Food Handlers Certification course,
  • Knowledge of Ontario Food Premises Regulation and Canada's Food Guide,
  • Ability to work within and promote a team environment,
  • Must enjoy working with Residents,
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written,
  • Must be able to read, write and understand English,
  • Highly organized and able to work independently,
  • Must have a clear vulnerable sector screen, no older than 6 months, TB test results less than 6 months old, must be able to provide three supervisory references.
