Description
The Department of Community Services, Facility, Operations & Environment Division requires a Full-time Crew Person IV. This is a unionized position, IBEW Local 636, reporting directly to the Manager, Roads.

  • Proficiency testing and assessment will be conducted for applicants._

Work Schedule:


  • 40hours per week. Afternoon, Midnight and Standby shifts will be required
  • Overtime hours may be offered in accordance with the Collective Agreement

Major Job Responsibilities:


  • Operate Town of Milton heavy equipment in a safe, efficient manner in accordance with best practices and established procedures to accomplish assigned objectives
  • Work as part of a crew to maintain roadways and open spaces according to established procedures and practices
  • Cleaning and clearing culverts, drainage ditches and other drainage structures
Cuts, rakes and disposes of brush and debris using a variety of hand and power tools including weed eaters, chain saws and chippers

  • Work on roadways including but not limited to: culvert installation, ditching, pothole repair, dead animal removal, debris pick up, gravel shoulder work, etc.
  • Winter Control duties including but not limited to: plowing, sanding/salting, antiicing, winter patrolling
  • Performs concrete and asphalt pavement installation, repair, patching and cleaning using a jackhammer and other hand and power tools as necessary
  • Performs manual labor tasks on projects including installation of concrete catch basins, retaining walls, walkways and other structures as directed; builds concrete forms and places reinforcing steel as required; mixes and pours concrete as necessary
  • General maintenance, cleanup duties and safety checks of Town lands, parks and open spaces
  • Cleans public use areas, collect and dispose of garbage and litter
Perform traffic control duties for road crews on site in adherence with Book 7 of the OTM

  • Performs routine preventative maintenance and cleaning of assigned equipment and tools
  • Submits neat and complete written and electronic records including time sheets, maintenance history report forms and other records as directed
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 23 kgs with an occasional requirement to lift up to 45 kgs
  • Operate assigned vehicles and equipment including but not limited to tractors, pickup trucks, tandem trucks, commercial mowers, small grass cutting/hedge trimming machinery, power tools and radio communications
  • Complies with all health and safety practices as it relates to the work, standard operating guidelines and the Occupational Health & Safety Act
  • Performs other duties as assigned in accordance with Department objectives

Education and Experience:


  • Minimum grade 12 high school diploma
  • OGRA TJ Mahoney and Snow School is an asset
  • Demonstrated heavy equipment experience with corresponding and validated certification
  • Minimum of two years experience in a municipal environment involving road, construction, landscape construction and snowplowing operations is preferred
  • Previous construction/road maintenance experience is preferred and an asset

Certifications and Designations

  • Book 7 certification
  • Must possess a valid and clear DZ Driver's License, AZ is preferred
  • Current Standard First Aid/CPR certificate
  • WHIMIS training and certificate

Additional Skills

  • Excellent communication skills including the ability to understand and follow verbal and written direction, instructions and interact courteously and professionally with staff and the general public
  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act is required

Hourly Rate:
$31.84
