What can I expect to do in this role?: Support a dynamic, fast-paced, and innovative team in the development and interpretation of ministry policies related to all aspects of wildlife management, including big game, small game, hunting and trapping, wildlife in captivity and wildlife health. This role includes providing technical, analytical and administrative support to the development of Fish and Wildlife Policy Branch policies, regulations, procedures and programs for the Fish and Wildlife Policy Branch.


How do I qualify?:


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge:

  • Understanding of the theory, principles and practices of natural resource management and environmental risk assessment, planning and management;
  • Knowledge of policy development processes and Indigenous and public consultation approaches;
  • Knowledge of policy research and analysis techniques, environmental scanning, modeling and trends forecasting including utilizing databases and websites to gather, summarize and interpret information;
  • Knowledge of data and information analysis techniques and computerbased analytical, data management and modeling techniques to research, compile and analyze data, prepare reports and related materials, and recommend effective courses of action;
  • Knowledge of personal computers including Microsoft Office software (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) and communication software such as MS Teams.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Welldeveloped research and analytical skills to conduct research, analyze, assess and report on complex and diverse issues with attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills to assist in the preparation of technical reports, presentations, briefing notes and decks, and communications materials.
  • Professionalism, judgement and demonstrated ability to work in teams, address contentious issues with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to use computer software including word processing, spreadsheets, presentation, and database packages.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills to undertake and balance multiple tasks and shifting timelines.
  • Information management skills and computer skills to conduct research, maintain electronic information systems and prepare reports.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team and with clients and partners.

Eligibility:


  • Proof of eligibility to work in Canada;
  • Graduated or will graduate from an approved or legally authorized college or university with a degree, postgraduate certificate or diploma within the last four years;
  • Not a permanent OPS employee.
