Summer Student - Nursing Attendant

About the Position:


Under the direction of the Director of Care, the Nursing Home Care Nurse will assist in the support of residents by assisting others who provide care to residents.

The incumbent will assist in activities such as being a host in the dining room or tearoom and will assist with indirect support to residents such as making beds and tidying room.

This role will take residents for a walk or sit and read with them, listening to their stories, sharing current events with them.

This role will not replace the role of the PSW or Recreation staff rather will augment the role they play in supporting the resident.

The above is a general description of the duties and responsibilities of the position. However, other duties may be assigned as the needs of the residents and the division require.


WAGE:
$15.00 hourly

  • This position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs Program_
    QUALIFICATIONS
  • The successful applicant must be enrolled in a postsecondary institution (in a social science or health related field) for September 2023 as required by CSJP

EXPERIENCE

  • No experience needed rather a desire and willingness to embrace new opportunities
  • Must be a willing to take initiative, be a self starter yet follow direction when required and work in a team environment.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Must be able to communicate in written and verbal form and maintain an acceptable standard of behaviour and appearance.
  • Computer skills an asset.
  • An energetic, compassionate person who enjoys working with the elderly and who possess excellent problem solving, planning and creative abilities.
  • Ability to follow direction and work in a team environment.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to work compassionately with seniors.
