Lakeridge Health is home to several regional specialty centres, including the R.S. McLaughlin Durham Regional Cancer Centre, Pinewood Centre for addictions and mental health, and The Shoulder Centre.

Lakeridge Health Emergency Departments see approximately 204,000 visits annually. Approximately 14,000 visits are specifically for mental health and addictions. We currently have an opportunity for two Physician Assistant to join the existing Physician Assistant program at Lakeridge Health.


The successful applicant will provide clinical services under the direct supervision of psychiatrist and ED staff physicians and play a key role in supporting the patient experience.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Perform a complete and appropriate clinical assessment of a patient and formulate a clinical treatment plan. Obtain health history as appropriate, including patient demographics, chief complaint, history of the present illness or injury, past medical, surgical, family and psychosocial history, medications, allergies and systems review.
  • Obtaining, collating, and summarizing collateral information from hospital records (internal and external/requested) regarding history of illness and previous pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic interventions, efficacy and tolerability.
  • Develop and communicate diagnostic and treatment recommendations to the patient.
  • Administer and follow (with appropriate training) various psychiatric rating scales.
  • Formulate treatment plans and support appropriate connections to consultants, allied health, outpatient clinics and support any other services/special needs for the patient.
  • Integrate all the core PA competencies to provide optimal, ethical and patientcentered medical care.

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Graduate of the McMaster or Consortium Physician Assistant Program
  • Membership with the Canadian Association of Physician Assistants
  • Ability to work with an interprofessional healthcare team
  • Passion for Psychiatry/Emergency Medicine
