Position Summary


As a member of the UHN and the Operating Room Team, the PERIOPERATIVE SERVICES ATTENDANT practices in accordance with relevant legislation/standards, meeting the legal and ethical requirements of the profession.


Duties

  • Include performing transportation functions, including movement of patients, equipment and supplies.
  • Stocking supplies and maintaining inventory.
  • Ensuring necessary inventories are maintained, patient holding area and other designated areas.
  • Performing patient focused care and patient assistance functions.
  • Preparing area's for surgery by providing responsive teamoriented environmental support/maintenance services for the physical surroundings and equipment within.
  • Performing other indirect patient related duties.
  • Working in compliance of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and its regulations, reporting hazards, deficiencies and contravention's of the Act, in a timely manner.
  • Performing crossfunctional duties as assigned and/or required.
  • Performing other duties consistent with the job classification, as assigned and/or required.

Qualifications

  • Completion of Grade Xll or recognized equivalent.
  • One (1) year recent experience in a related patient care capacity.
  • Ability to speak, read, write and comprehend the English language.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and other relevant legislation.
  • Knowledge of the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (W.H.M.I.S.).
  • Knowledge of applicable Hospital and departmental policies, procedures, guidelines, protocols and practices.
  • Knowledge of procedures for handling contaminated materials.
  • Ability to setup and maintain the equipment, tools and instruments common to the Operating Room environment, within scope of responsibility.
  • Must have the ability to work collaboratively as an active participant with others in assisting with the delivery of the care to surgical patients.
  • Ability to perform responsibilities in a courteous manner.
  • Standard First Aid/ Basic Rescuer Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (C.P.R.) certification an asset.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the job required including: ability to stand, stoop, walk, bend, lift, push, pull and reach without any physical discomfort on a continuous basis.
  • Transferring patients with appropriate assistance.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift in excess of 40 kg.
  • Vaccines (COVID19 and others) are a requirement of the job unless you have an exemption on a medical ground pursuant to the Ontario Human Rights Code.
