    Description

    Duties:

    The IT Endpoint Systems Administrator works with VIU IT teams to administer, support and optimize managed client operating systems and related applications, storage, virtual and physical desktop infrastructure, security software, and endpoint systems management tools.

    Under the direction of the Infrastructure Manager, responsibilities include the following:

  • Develops and maintains installation and configuration procedures; contributes to and maintains system standards.
  • Researches and recommends endpoint hardware and software specifications and configurations as needed to provide sustainable computing experiences to VIU staff, students, faculty, and partners.
  • Researches and recommends innovative, and where possible, automated approaches for application administration, systems management and deployment tasks. Identifies approaches that leverage resources and provide economies of scale.
  • Engage and coordinate with managed service providers and vendors to implement and evolve endpoint hardware, software and system solutions.
  • Installs, configures and maintains endpoint application systems and configures services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project and/or operational requirements.
  • Configures and maintains endpoint aligned cloud based systems and application management consoles and solutions as required.
  • Applies endpoint application, image patches and upgrades on a regular basis and upgrades administrative tools and utilities. Configures and adds new endpoint services as necessary.
  • Performs endpoint system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled maintenance jobs.
  • Performs regular endpoint security monitoring to identify any possible intrusions.
  • Manages systems management issues to prevent incidents, facilitate workarounds, develop solutions to known issues and perform trend analysis of important or historical incidents.
  • Creates, tests and maintains all software deployment packages for automated provisioning used by client support teams.
  • Ensures and maintains a consistent end user computing experience for VIU staff, students and partners across all VIU locations and systems.
  • Provides change management support for the client services teams and other VIU departments or VIU partners as required to maintain effective change management controls of VIU endpoint systems.
  • Troubleshoots and identifies endpoint application issues. Coordinates and communicates with impacted constituencies.
  • Coordinates the response for all university-critical endpoint systems and endpoint management systems in the event of incidents and emergency events.
  • Provides appropriate assistance to other VIU/partner technical and project teams as required.
  • Performs periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning.
  • Performs ongoing system performance tuning, upgrades, and resource optimization as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the manager.
  • Completes general updates on the administrative area, faculty or department website (e.g., biographies, announcements, important dates, course information), ensuring information is current and accurate.
  • Successful candidates will participate in a wide range of activities, including, student support; institutional, faculty and departmental committee meetings and other initiatives; and professional activities in keeping with their disciplines in and outside the institution.

    Required Qualifications:

    Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology or a related field from an accredited institution. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Two years minimum of systems administration experience. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

  • Industry systems management certificate or a certification in a relevant equivalent area.
  • Demonstrated strengths in M365 and Windows System Administration.
  • Demonstrated project and change management skills.
  • Experience with large scale physical, virtual and / or managed deployment administration.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to travel, as required to other VIU campuses and facilities.
  • Must possess a valid Class 5 BC Driver's License and have a confirmed satisfactory driving record
  • Preferred Qualifications:

  • Excellent interpersonal and client-handling skills, with the ability to manage expectations and explain technical details.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce and maintain high quality technical documentation.
  • Ability to conduct research, produce reports and make appropriate recommendations.
  • Ability to work in a team and high-pressure environments, requiring proficiency in multitasking, prioritizing, and meeting deadlines.
  • Experience with thin and zero client technologies.
  • Demonstrated understanding of enterprise network technologies.
  • Excellent understanding of Active Directory, Microsoft management tools and group policies.
  • Experience in VMWare administration
  • Experience in endpoint related scripting (PowerShell or equivalents)
  • Experience in SCCM/InTune administration (or other systems management equivalents)
  • AV Industry certifications such as AVIXA CTS, AVIXA DTS-D, or AVIXA CTS-I.
  • Vendor AV certifications from leading suppliers such as Extron or Crestron.
